I hear you Dwight! “My boring side story”…..In 1968 I purchased a 1956 Studebaker Golden Hawk. I owned it for twelve years, drove it regularly, and eventually gave it an amateur restoration… Entered it in car shows, It was my first ‘decent’ car, however, I eventually sold it in 1980, moving on to Avantis! Fast forward forty one years and that same Hawk comes up for sale…. neglected and left outside for all those years.. most folks would have considered it to be a ‘parts car’ at best! Well, something inside me could not let ‘my’ Golden Hawk be scrapped… I bought the car back (for probably too much money) in 2021…. Over the last four years I have given the car a ‘decent’ restoration, bringing it back to life… The restoration included finding and purchasing a solid Hawk frame, and, of course pouring in more than a few dollars. (I did all work myself) Although I didn’t ‘need’ this car, as I already own a pretty nice 1955 President Speedster, (a very similar Studebaker), I had to save my boyhood Studebaker! I will never again sell this Golden Hawk, and if I did sell I’d no doubt lose more than a few bucks, but in some cases money becomes secondary to emotional attachment and accomplishment….. 56J’s Forever!!!!!

‘HAPPY NEW YEAR 2026’ to everyone... Especially owners and fans of Avanti automobiles!!
-
Amen!…. And those are very ‘cool’ vehicles!!

That administrator has to go!

Sorry the answer here is TRUE!

It would kill the enjoyment of owning my cars if I had to bank on that they would increase in value….. I mean, it certainly is nice if a profit is made when a car is sold, but most experienced car collectors know their lucky if they break even.. and generally they lose a few bucks on the deal…. That’s just the nature of the animal aardvark…. Anyone DEPENDING their collector car’s value will go up may as well roll the dice in the stock market.

No problem Bob, Glad I could help you!
-
Pretty basic for a factory job (body lift)…. but it worked!!
-
Well, I hope you reach your financial goals… I never knew any hobbyist that had to so strongly consider the present and future financial aspects of purchasing in Avanti. (other than automotive repair shop or body shop owners) However, any way a person can achieve their goal of Avanti ownership is a good way I guess. (Other than stealing one!!!) More power to you, Good luck & Happy New Year!

Complicated, but very thorough info… I’ll see where it leads me… Thank you.

Bushing driver set a must…. And a good vice!

I really enjoy driving my 1963 supercharged Avanti in nice weather, and occasionally enjoying a ‘cruise in’ type show. I’ve met the nicest people over the years!
-
Loooong story short: 1) Do your homework and… 2) Keep in mind the old adage…. ’There’s nothing more expensive than a cheap Avanti!!’

The issue the wiper system in my ‘63 has is….wipers do not go into ‘park’ mode.. When I turn knob to ‘off’ the wipers stop wherever.. and I have to ‘catch’ them at base of windshield before quickly turning knob to ‘off’… I’ve owned this Avanti for 35 years and this problem is something new.
-
Wow!…. I have to admit my ‘63 never sees rain, and the last time I tried wipers was at annual motor vehicle inspection… (which I suppose could be part of the problem… lack of use!) But if I remember correctly all the way to left is ‘off’, with wiper speed increasing as knob is rotated clockwise. ( please correct me if this doesn’t sound right)

1972 Avant ll’s with standard transmissions… Rare birds!!
-
Yes, that’s me ‘mfg’… and 22692 has always been my lucky number.
-
I’ve heard that before… I think part of the problem there is that the later Avanti ll’s were hamstrung with a really ‘tall’ rear axle ratio, which greatly hurt off the line performance.

Source For Replacement Rochester Quadrajet on 1969 350
mfg replied to TED DIMON's topic in 1965-83 Avanti
I like GM Quadrajets when they’re working correctly… The non electronic version on my ‘83 ‘everyday driver’ never skips a beat! -
I wish I did… My ‘63 is doing the same thing…… Only clue I have is I replaced the wiper switch with a rather rare NOS part… with no improvement. These switches need to be grounded to chassis, and mine is.

And a gorgeous Avanti it is!!

Before being donated to the Crawford Automotive/Aviation Museum, the last production Studebaker Avanti, R5643, was offered for sale to anyone willing to spend ……?…… 1) $60K…….2) $80K……3)100K….or…….$125K
