  1. I go back to this older thread once in a while......Anyone else like to add to it? .
  2. Best tip I can offer is ...find a mechanically inclined twenty year old who's body is still flexible enough to stand on his/her head!!!!
  3. I would have also " re established" the Studebaker scripting...but the fact that the prior owner of the '64 'pulled' all those emblems is a good example how some folks felt about these things in the later sixties- seventies....Ed .
  4. Along the same lines..A parts manager at a dealership I once worked at told this story...Studebaker would ship cars by train into the large rail yard at Readville, Mass..Somehow that manager (he was just a teen then, 1963) and some of his friends gained access to unloaded new Studebakers one night..and spent an enjoyable (????) half hour or so playing bumping cars with brand new Studebakers! ( I have no idea if Avantis were included in their 'fun'!!

Wow!.... It's so good your Daytona wasn't destroyed by someone long ago!....Until you recently brought the car back into the light of day, I believe few knew it even still existed!........ BRAVO!!!!!!

Nelson..was this Daytona left basically intact over the years and just salted away by someone? ( After Paxton gave it up?)

Nelson, you may not be a millionaire right now, however you surely would be if you sold a few of those very special Studebakers at a Barrett- Jackson! I believe that the interest by even non-Studebaker folks would be off the charts!! For now though, those Studes certainly ended up with the right guy!...Best regards, Ed

It would be 'neat' if you could bring the car back to Bonneville for a photo session, and perhaps a few 'runs'....Similar to what they did with the 'Bobby Issac' '69 Dodge Daytona (#71) a few years ago! (If you could pull that off, I suspect we'd see that Stude Daytona on the front cover of a future HRM!!)

Wonderful photos!... We're the Halibrand mag wheels blacked out like that when the Daytona ran at Bonneville?
  10. Mark is all set, however I thought I'd mention the earlier '57-'58 Stude Golden Hawk used the same vacuum gauge as early Stude Avantis...with the exception being the color of the needle would need changing from white to orange.

    Opinion (×2)

Thank you!...but I don't think the conversion would be very hard..basically exchanging the rectangular headlight buckets for the earlier round type...and swapping the paInted plastic rectangular headlight bezels for the earlier metal chromed round type...The location of the two headlamp adjustment screws, and tension spring, would also need to be re- located.
  12. Good info....Thanks!
  13. Yes, I think that the later Avanti ll flanged axle diffs are similar to the diff you installed in your '64 Stude Avanti..A good move I believe! I own a fairly low mileage (50K) flanged diff taken from a wrecked '84...and if the tapered axle original diff in my '63 Stude Avanti R2 ever gives me a problem, I'll no doubt swap it out for the '84.
  14. I like the Fel-Pro brand cork gaskets...They seal well, and if you carefully glue them to the rocker cover they can be re used if it's necessary to remove cover.
  15. Wondering if the later ('80's) Avanti "44" rear diff assy (with one piece flanged axle shafts) is anywhere near as strong as the special flanged "44" axle Studebaker used in their R3- R4 applications?

    Opinion....

Hmmm..that's interesting...I'm not sure if I ever saw that 'relief for the blower hose'.
  17. Close but no cigar! P S........Like your idea of moving turn signals back to leading fender edges...and installing driving lights in the vacated bumper locations!

    Opinion....

OK..and that one's a gorgeous, factory black round light! PS.. Paul, did you see the ad for the Avantis for sale on Rt 114 in Standish?..Check the 'Avantis For Sale' section on this forum. .
