  1. What event, which greatly effected Studebaker Avanti production, occurred on 3/16/62 ?
  2. I lucked out several years ago..Dave Thibeault got me one of the last NOS Avanti radiators from SASCO..It's in my '63.
  3. Thanks for your comment Nelson..I do not need a radiator right now..but if I have a radiator issue down the road, I would like to be somewhat prepared.
  4. Question....In '63-'85 Avantis, all else being equal, do modern aluminum radiators cool as well as traditional brass radiators?
  5. Looks to me to be two well thought out installs...Congrats men!!
  6. I don't believe Studebaker ever chrome plated an Avanti fan...even for R3's & 4's!
  7. Yes it is unusual.... although I've seen aluminum and even fiberglass aftermarket engine fans on Stude Avantis, I've never seen another 'factory stock' Avanti engine fan highly chrome plated....It makes me wonder who did this, and which Avanti it was originally intended for??
  8. ....A good, long life!...Rest In Peace Edward.

    Avanti Issue!

You got it!...this might be a rarity, however I've seen this twice....The lower 'ear' or 'leg' of the L or R engine mount bracket (bolted to engine block) can fatigue and break off..... When this happens, although the bracket is still bolted to engine by the two top bolts, it will twist allowing engine to drop around 1" on the broken side....This situation can also tear rubber motor mount apart.

    Avanti Issue!

Pretty good answer, but not the one needed here!

    Avanti Issue!

    Anyone?

    Avanti Problem!

Correct..these mods enhanced the Avantis high speed potential...Other oil related modifications occurred when the 'R' series engines were introduced!

    Avanti Issue!

But there is one item in particular!
  14. Concerning the front engine mounts of a Studebaker Avanti...what item will sometimes fail on high mileage cars or on cars driven hard or raced? (not referring to rubber items or frame)

    Avanti Problem!

PS...I really shouldn't have said "chronic problem".... oil return to the pan wasn't a problem at all in day- to-day normal passenger car driving. High rpm use was another matter! .

    Avanti Lobes

Great reply!....(and not counting that front fuel pump eccentric)

    Avanti Problem!

Yep!... improved oil flow back to pan..accomplished in a variety of ways.
  18. What chronic problem in the Studebaker V8 engine did Stude engineers solve when the 'R' series of V8's was introduced?
  19. In a parts grab last year, I acquired a beautifully chrome plated Stude Avanti fan blade...It's an exact Avanti five blade steel 17" viscous fan blade..but chrome plated. It appeared to be NOS or 'almost' NOS, and is installed on my '63 at present.... Has anyone ever came across a Stude Avanti fan like this?

    Avanti Lobes

    Studebaker V8 camshafts have ----- lobes. 1) 16.....2) 17....or...3) 18

    Avanti Fluid!

    Anyone?

    Avanti Bonnet!

Exactly correct!.... (I always wondered why Stude engineers felt that divider was necessary?)

    Avanti Blower!

    Shims it is!...(was?)
  24. mfg

    R2 Negatives!

Agreed..The two I was thinking of was, as you say, 1) the carb chamber, and 2) bringing much cooler air to the supercharger from outside the engine compartment. The extra breathers would also be a benefit.
  25. In a Paxton supercharger, clearance between impeller and scroll housing is controlled by..... 1) tapered shaft....2) different impellers.....or....3) shims .
