  1. I’d go with P205/75R-15 …. The front suspension under your ‘63 Avanti first came out in ‘51, and was initially designed for narrower tires. Your Avanti will steer easier with the 205’s, and chance of tire rub against the fiberglass fenders will indeed be lessened!
  2. Congratulations!… your’s is one of the most gorgeous Avantis I’ve ever seen…. R2 four speed to boot!!!!

    Avanti Dyno!

There is a gorgeous white ‘63 round lite Avanti a fellow from New Hampshire used to own, which was restored to original condition a few years ago including its original t-86 three speed manual transmission….. However, I would bet the majority of Stude Avantis built with a three speed manual trans have been converted to a four speed trans over the years.
  4. Good point…. Impressive job!
  5. Wow!!!

    Avanti Dyno!

I agree with you!…Perhaps just a magazine error.
  7. Back seat is Avanti Only… most likely made in house.

    Avanti Dyno!

Interesting!… and is he only speaking of four speed equipped Avantis?… How about the rare three speed manual models?

    Avanti Dyno!

I understand what you mean… but on the other hand why wouldn’t the author simply have stated ALL Avantis were dyno tested before shipment? It puzzles me why he specifically wrote “ manual transmission equipped Avantis!”
  10. Good idea to re bleed the system, but to tell you the truth I highly doubt there is any air trapped inside that junction block.

    Avanti Dyno!

Can’t accept this info until that PO is posted. (Just being cautious, considering my past experiences with this forum member)

    Avanti Dyno!

Interesting comment! As far as this trivia question goes, according to the article about Elmer’s ‘63 Avanti… only manual transmission equipped Avantis were tested on the rollers at Studebaker… If that is correct, the answer to this question is True.

    Hemmings Avanti!

Yes, Avanti Gold R1 Four speed… Elk/Fawn interior.
  14. Sure sounds to me like the pushrod is still to short… I would try lengthening it more, regardless if it begins pushing m/c piston in upon installation.
  15. If you didn’t say you replaced everything, I would have suspected a bad master cylimder.
  16. Definitely no proportioning valve in the original Studebaker disc brake system. Studebaker engineers decided that non self energizing rear drum brakes were all the proportioning their disc brake system needed!

    Avanti Dyno!

Well Dwight , a period ‘Car Life Magazine’ article on Studebaker… and a very recent article on a ‘63 Avanti, say that you may be incorrect! Any other thoughts on this one?
  18. Interesting article in the November Hemings Classic Car Magazine concerning a completely original 12,000 mile Studebaker Avanti… This Avanti has always been very well cared for, and has never been repainted… It even has its original tires! I remember this gold Avanti was a big deal way back in the mid ‘70’s because of its (then) low mileage and outstanding condition…. Elmer Swipenhizer (?) owned it then.

    Avanti Dyno!

Only manual transmission ‘63 Studebaker Avantis were dynomometer tested at South Bend prior to shipment…..True?
  20. I wouldn’t use any sealer under the A Pillar trim …it’s really not needed there.
  21. 100 on the primaries… Wow!… Thanks Dwight! Luma…. 63R1379 was originally gold with elk/fawn… it’s now Avanti Turquoise. Ed
  22. Dwight, how would you rate ‘seat of the pants’ acceleration between an R2 equipped Stude Avanti and an R3 equipped Avanti? Since you have experienced both engines powering the same car, I figured your thoughts on this would be interesting!
  23. Thank you… I recall that his name would be mentioned in Turning Wheels from years ago, but I forgot any details… Him and Myles Walker.
  24. Dan Dumas is a name I heard of years ago… I never met the gent, but did he own one of the nine factory R3 Stude Avantis? Or was his Avanti powered by an R3 engine furnished by Paxton Products?
