  1. Past hour
  2. Interesting.. I would love to see pix's of that.

  4. False…. A Checker with a souped up Chevrolet engine under its hood does sound like the ultimate ‘sleeper’ though!!
  5. If you tighten the screw with the wave washer under it, (between the body bracket and the swing out latch), it tends to tighten up the hinge assy.
  6. There is a clay model of the Avanti done during development with fender flares.
  7. Other than Checker's insult to the Avanti I have never heard any of this. Rather than a drag race perhaps a more appropriate answer to the insult would be a challenge to the opinions of a panel of artists. Who do you think would win that? Or, perhaps a suggestion that the president of Checker should have his head examined. Having two artists in the family I am aware of the training and natural skill required to be a successful artist. What was Checker's president's artistic portfolio? --Dwight
  8. Hi--I recently purchased a 1963 R1, and I'm slowly taking care of a number of fairly minor issues that I've discovered. My latest project is tightening the rear quarter windows. I can pop them open with their hinged latches, but above like 35 mph the wind pressure blows them closed again. Years ago I had a similar problem with a Studebaker Hawk, and I was never able to fix it. I tried silicon seal on the pivot point, bending the latch a bit with a pair of pliers, etc. I suspect this is a common problem, but I can't find any posts on this forum about how to correct it. I would appreciate any advice. Thanks! Steve
  9. But, the wheel cover manufacturer wasn't re-stamping existing wheel covers. I figure that the late-53 -- 55 wheel cover dies were machined with the changes for the Avanti, then those dies were used in one "stamping" or strike to produce Avanti wheel covers. There is nothing unusually deep or complex about the Avanti wheel covers, therefore only one strike to produce a wheel cover. (I assume another strike to add the ring around the periphery.) So, the answer to the question as stated is zero (operations to convert). --Dwight
  10. True or false- In 1967, still stinging from Checker Cab’s insult to the Avanti, Leo Newman challenged them to a drag race with a 300hp 4spd Avanti. When Checker showed up with highly modified cab, Newman pulled the plug on the race and the rift was never healed.
  11. I totally agree. For comparison, this forum has 17 forum categories to cover a little over 40 years production of a handful of Avanti variations. SDC covers 114 years of production which includes multiple model cars. trucks. war vehicles, and more with just 10 categories. SDC is easier to navigate and covers all the bases. More is not always better. However, if we could have a sub-forum just for 1963 R2 Avantis with White exterior and Orange interior originally sold in California, that would be fine 😎

  13. There is absolutely no need for separate categories for the Avant R1 and Avanti R2-R5. It just creates confusion. While the R4 was a factory option, no R4 Avantis were factory built and the R5 was never a factory option. The 1963-1964 Avanti category worked well. "If it ain't broke don't fix it"
  14. Thanks Ron. I sent an inquiry to them for the specific installation photos.
  15. AOAI Forum Members 30 Gender:Male Location:Doylestown Pa. My Avanti:RQA0348 Posted August 26, 2022 I would like to solve the mystery involving this part. My name is Mike Phillips, and I am the creator of the spoiler / air dam in these pictures. In the 80's I owned an auto body shop and was a member of AOA, during that time I owned a '63 R1 and a '70 Avanti II. I designed and executed both the positive (plug) and negative mold to produce these parts which I still have. I would be glad to answer any further questions anyone may have.
  16. We appear to be nearing sub-forum overload. It is possible to have too many break-out sub categories. It's currently cumbersome to have to scroll through what we have. Perhaps a review of how many "hits" each current sub-forum is getting and then moving the less read ones to the bottom of the menu might be worth looking at.

    Paint issues

It’s just tough to see those blisters after all the work you did…. But your not alone with this one my friend!
  18. Well thank you Ron, but maybe not on this forum… Reason being, this forum’s R1 owners may feel a bit slighted!
  19. Thanks a lot! It is moister according to this service letter. Well, as the polyester will not rust, I might leave it like this. If I want to redo it, I should do it in the summer or use a decent heater. Lessons learned.
  20. It's a public Facebook group and I can add a R2 models to the forums if you'd like.
  21. I do not need another Avanti, but this one is a steal for the price it is being offered at.
  22. Leo, that's kinda what I'm doing, cheap clock quartz movement and running wires down to an A23 (12volt) battery by the fuse panel so it's easy to replace the battery every 12-24 months. Likewise for when I disconnect the 3EE it will still run. The main go-to place in the States does every old car's clock but the Avanti. Baa-humbug.
  23. I left mine unpainted and then added the “GT” type stripes to add to the contrast. Stripes are a wrap so if the next owner can remove them with a heat gun if they think them blasphemous! Mike
  24. Good deal for someone IF it starts and runs. 80k miles is not too bad. I'd be interested but I just bought my project 2 months ago.
  25. Photos have been added.
  26. I’m interested in the ‘Avanti R2 Models’ Forum… will this be a part of the AOAI Forum?
  27. You now have direct access to the Four AOAI Facebook Groups, AOAI Instagram Clubs and the SDC Forums. A new "Avanti R2 Models" Forum has been created and added for your participation. The original Avanti Car Club Instagram page is available to see it's photos but no longer an active page. A new one is on the horizon.
