  1. I have mine from the 80’s, still in its plastic wrap, decades before I got my car. Mike
  2. A guy told me he put a screw in that hole to keep the bushing from “walking” out. Don’t know if that is a thing, mine haven’t moved. Mike
  3. Here is a site to check https://www.clocksandgauges.com/home.html
  4. How deep is the clock body? Would it be possible to mount a quartz movement with a long shaft on the back of the body? I have a volt meter in the clock location so I’m just kind of speculating. Mike
  5. To each his own, but I think the emblems add to the looks. Mike
  6. Not terribly expensive, just a lot of patience and trial and error. Might find something on YouTube for working with the stuff that would make you a pro! But I agree with Zedman, I like the look of the ornament on the hood. Mike
  7. I used an old “S” insert as a pattern. An engraver did the lettering on a black background and cut the piece to size. Made a mold with some silicone molding goop, then poured liquid plastic in the mold over the engraved plastic. Lots of trial and error, but finally got one that was decent. Mike
  8. I liked the look of the ornament but instead of the “S” insert I made my own paying homage to the designer of the car. I also added the pirate buckles on the quarter panels but just left the inserts plain black. Mike
  9. Steve, yeah I know where Elmer City is. That would work if you wanted to pack one of those home for me. Just need to make the deal with Michael Phillips. Mike
  10. Mark, I think he said it was $150. Are you driving back? Mike
  11. Anyone from Washington State driving? Mike
  12. Hook up with Chicagoland AOAI https://www.facebook.com/avanti.chicagoland.7
  13. Looks like a good solution. Seems like it would help the air conditioning be more effective. Mike
  14. Now we just need something to cool off the shifter!
  15. Tanda62, did you get your suspension rebuild done and were you happy with it? Zedman found a YouTube on the door latches, it would be nice if we had some knowledgable Avanti guys putting more on. Too bad Grant didn’t make a video when he did his new bushings. I’m sure folks would like having some how to videos to help them with their updates. Mike
  16. My starter was sluggish and I finally sliced the positive cable from the battery to the starter. Yep, it had green corrosion inside. Replacing it made a big difference. Probably not your problem with the randomness but something to be aware of. Mike
  17. I thought one of the reasons the Avanti was developed was to try and shed the stodgy image of the Studebaker lineup and breathe some excitement into their brand. I’ll say false. Mike
  18. I’ve never driven my car in cold weather where I needed the rear window defroster. Not sure if it even works. I’m thinking the tint would be of more benefit. Mike
  19. Thanks AD. Wouldn’t think anything would stay cool sitting in the Arizona sun, but maybe the air conditioning would work a little better with the windows tinted. Can you post a photo?
  20. Sorry, I donated them to the Studebaker Garage at the Harrington WA car show in May as part of their fund raising raffle. I didn’t forsee ever having a 289 again and thought maybe someone else could put them to good use. Mike
  21. AD, were you happy with the tinting? Did it help cool the interior at all? Mike
  22. I wondered that too. Maybe take it to the shop that does the work and get their opinion. How about the side windows, anyone done that and had good results? Mike
  23. Hey Gunslinger, there are a lot of “Saturn” front air dams on eBay. Not sure what specific model fits. I like the looks of the ones Mike Phillips is making but not excited about 350 for the air dam and then 150 for shipping. Thanks, Mike

    1. Gunslinger

      Gunslinger

When I last bought one of the air dams from a GM dealer they were less than $30.  I don’t have the numbers but I think they’re listed on one of the Avanti information websites.  If I can come up with them I’ll let you know.

Thanks Bruce. I kind of remember the conversation but I only remember it was from a Saturn. Haven’t been able to find the thread yet. Mike

  24. If it’s a glue on you can buy mirror glue at the parts store. Make sure your glass is clean for best adhesion. Mike
