    R3 Numbers!

VERY dated info…. and, as I suspected, no ‘B1’. ….. get back to us when you have more current information.

    R3 Numbers!

Info was printed in Avanti Magazine, Issue # 172… It stated that ‘B9’ was/is the first ‘B’ R3 engine number…. A noted Avanti historian and AOAI board member stated this……. Don’t shoot the messenger Bob… and, as I’ve told you many times in the past…. substantiate your assertions.

    R3 Numbers!

If regnalbob’s info is correct, perhaps ‘B9’ was the first R3 engine used in a production Avanti?

    R3 Numbers!

According to the late Al Basile (Avanti Authenticity Guide), Avanti R3 Paxton engine numbers began with ‘B9’….. Although regnalbob’s statement contradicts this, for now B9 will be accepted as the answer.

    63R-1016 Question!

Years ago a friend of mine whom owned a Stude Avanti ‘transition model’ with the R2 supercharged engine, paid someone to change the water pump…. The mechanic, not knowing any better, purchased & installed a standard duty, non-flanged water pump on that Avanti… The pump indeed failed about six months later.

    Avanti Frame!

Good question!…. Owner states “1st production frame built by Studebaker”.. which could be interpreted as built by the Budd company.. but not by Midland Ross, as the ‘EX’ Stude Avantis frames were.

    R3 Numbers!

Good guess, however, B6 isn’t the number!

    Avanti Frame!

A bit of controversy here John…Another noted Avanti collector, whom I’m sure you have met, has stated that one of the above listed Studebaker Avantis was the first Avanti equipped with a frame produced at Studebaker, South Bend. Any other thoughts on this question?
  18. The tinted glass on this Avanti looks nice against the ‘Avanti White’ exterior paint!
  19. Sounds like a plan… Good luck friend!
  20. It still would be a pretty good deal… however I’d have to factor in the cost of finding another place to live after my wife found out I’ve purchased another Avanti!!!
  21. Not sure… Texas to Massachusetts is pretty far.
