  1. Beautiful Super Hawk!…. If the set of Halibrand wheels on your ‘64 Daytona HRM car are the “second” type… I think I prefer the look of those to the look of the “ first “ style Halibrands on your ‘63 Hawk.
  2. I think Studebaker’s giving up the right to distribute Mercedes Benz vehicles in the U.S. was also a major mistake…. Not to mention passing up Volkswagen!!
  3. I don’t think so Mike… When you add up everything that was going against continued auto production in South Bend by the early sixties, it would have been next to impossible to last more than a couple years more than they did.

    Avanti LSC’s!

    Good coin flip!…. Correct!
  5. The moonroof glass, sliding panel etc. are all removed from the top… I’d go as far as possible from outside your Avanti… and at that point headliner access should be a lot better.

    Avanti LSC’s!

No, apparently not…. the info I’ve seen does not indicate fourteen.
  7. Hard to believe that names so familiar to us…..Pontiac…….Oldsmobile…….Plymouth…….Mercury…. have become footnotes in history…Yes, very hard to believe!
  8. James Nance apparently did his darndest to rally support ($$$$$) for the Packard division of S-P… however, it was too little too late.
  9. You may need to bring your Avanti to a local auto paint supplier that has the camera that can photograph your paint and determine a color formula…Free service if you purchase paint!
  10. True…. Packard would have probably lasted into the early sixties if not for the Studebaker “goof”… and dragging their feet on styling and engineering… however, ultimately GM and Ford were unbeatable.
  11. Too bad about Packard… In my humble opinion the high quality but hopelessly homely ‘48-‘50 ‘Bathtub’ design, and lack of a V8 engine until 1955, killed them.

#4 it is!… a man, and a tall, nice looking woman!

    Avanti Prize!

    Sorry, not #3!
  15. In the somewhat famous photo of Indy winner Rodger Ward becoming the world’s first Studebaker Avanti owner, he is shown with two other people…..Those other people were ………? 1) Studebaker Execs….2) Indy Speedway Execs……3) Egbert and Indy Studebaker Dealer…..or…4) A couple of Ward’s friends
  16. I think he came up with the design of what was supposed to be the ‘every man’s’ bread and butter Avanti-like sedan … The concept car was built in France, and Mr. Ebstein’s ability to speak French certainly helped this endeavor!
  17. In 1966, Paxton Products had brand new Carter AFB carbs for sale from their stock of …..?….. of these. 1) fifty…..2) one hundred…..3) two hundred…. or….3) two hundred fifty
  18. Avanti Motors built ….?…. LSC models in model year 1987. 1) six…..2) nine…3) eleven…. or…. 4) fourteen
  19. He was quite the administrator… Raymond Loewy’s ‘ Right Arm’!
  20. My first Stude Avanti, 63R3623, had factory ‘quiet’ exhaust, with small oval mufflers and resonators in place of the L&R pipes that normally connected the standard fiberglass mufflers to the rear tailpipes. It also had the connector pipe that connected the two exhaust pipes….just ahead of the oval mufflers . That ‘connector’ pipe really had no performance advantage… it was there to smooth out the exhaust pulses in the optional quiet Avanti exhaust system!
  21. That’s because you only bought the ‘Hot Rods” Nelson !!!!!!!!!!
  22. Wow!…Doesn’t seem right… If you purchased it new, I’d think they would take it back and furnish you the correct size…The unit I purchased fit my ‘83 Avanti with no mods..I was able to perform the entire install through the removable sunglasses opening at top center of dash.
  23. I’ll see if I can read the part # from under dash… I no longer have the packaging…l didn’t use the power antenna connection, as the power antenna was eliminated from my ‘83 before I bought it.
  24. Early on, Studebaker connected the front exhaust pipes with a crossover pipe to even out the exhaust pulses for a ‘smoother’ exhaust note…. personally, I prefer separated exhaust pipes with glasspack mufflers for that ‘raucous’, in your face exhaust sound!!
