  1. Could someone who participates on the Stude Forum let “ajcook” know that his fathers President Speedster #7165211, 6HK7 1265, is listed in the roster, and that it’s prior owner was a Mr. Gary Walter of Michigan, who purchased the car in 12/85… Thanks… Ed
  2. Hi Paul…. How’s everything in Arundel?
  3. I like the idea of converting to Turner brakes if you intend to drive your ‘63 Avanti a lot… They are superior for a few reasons…. On the other hand, if you intend to drive your Avanti sparingly (using it basically for auto shows and club meets) I believe overhauling the factory stock brake system is the way to go.
  4. Hello Stefan….. Sorry, but that particular President Speedster doesn’t show up in the roster… The Speedster nearest to it in the roster is # 7165910....Body 6HK7 1509… so the serial # and body sequence # of the car you’re interested in sounds correct. I’m going to enter 7165903 into the roster, and please keep me informed if you indeed make purchase….. Best wishes….Ed (Thank you regnalbob for posting this)
  5. Probably time to purchase a zip kit and overhaul carb!
  6. Please keep us posted on how you like those new springs… I’m in the market for a new pair of front coils myself!
  7. You’d think one of Ward’s sons would have held onto that car…. but sometimes life gets in the way.
  8. This ‘Ward’ Stude Avanti was posted for sale in 2007…. I remember seeing it on the for sale board at the South Bend Int. meet that year.
  9. Does the supercharger maintain its oil level? Sometimes a worn Paxton will throw a bit of its lubricant into carb.
  10. Love this stuff!!

    Avanti Panel!

So some of the Stude types also had this problem.
  12. VERY impressed with someone who can do the job you described…. Studebaker parts departments closed a long time ago, and sometimes we have to open our own ‘parts department’ !! BRAVO!!!!
  13. Ed…..Congratulations from your Studebaker/Avanti friends in the Northeast !

    Avanti Panel!

Yes the hood… as Nels indicated, the hood upper ‘skin’ has been known to separate from its under framework due to whatever type of bonding adhesive Avanti Motors used failing…. My own ‘83 ‘everyday driver’ did this at the right front corner near the hood hinge. I’ve never seen a Studebaker Avanti hood separate like that.

    Avanti Panel!

Sorry no, not the roof panel.

    TV Avanti!

    Yep!…You nailed it!
  17. A rather unusual body related issue, involving a body panel separating from the car (at speed), has shown up over the years on a few mid ‘80’s Avanti ll’s…. The problem body panel is the …..?….. 1) Deck lid…..2) Roof…..3) Hood ….or….4) Rocker panel

    TV Avanti!

A 1963 Studebaker Avanti was used in at least one episode of the (then) weekly television series …..?….. 1) Happy Days…..2) Barnaby Jones….3) Burke’s Law…. or….4) The Fugitive
  19. In a 1963 HRM road test of a (non A/C) Studebaker Avanti, the tester stated that he was quite comfortable in summertime Los Angeles heat by keeping the side windows rolled up and leaving the vent & quarter windows open…. I guess MEN WERE MEN back then!!!!!!!!! PS…. Or was it just that the earth was cooler ????
  20. Happy Birthday to you Aardvark!
  21. It’s good news you’re back! About that question you were asked concerning two Avanti designers… You answered Loewy & Bunting… You weren’t wrong, however, I’ll bet they were looking for names of ‘original’ Stude Avanti designers… Loewy, Andrews, Ebstein, & Kellogg……. Yes-No?

    Paxton Option!

Yes guys TRUE… very few were built this way.. a carryover from the McCullochs …Bad deal if owner didn’t keep engine oil clean.
  23. In 1960, Paxton Products offered short nosed centrifugal automotive superchargers in both self contained and direct oiling form…. True?
  24. Well, you taught me something!! Thanks !
  25. Aren’t aluminum and bronze completely disimilar metals?
