  1. Yes… I purchased and installed one in my ‘83 Avanti ‘Everyday Driver’ about four years ago….(replacing a dysfunctional factory Blaupunkt radio)…The Autosound unit fit my Avanti’s dash with no modifications to the dash… and even plugged into the four factory speaker wiring with little effort……. Reasonable price… I’m quite happy with this purchase!

    Upholstery?
  3. Nice!… Good way to get the youngsters learning what Avantis are all about!
  4. Yes… there should be a FACTORY part number on that piece….NICE WORK!!!!!
  5. R4892 is considered to be the first production ‘square light’ Stude Avanti… with all of the INITIAL ‘64 model year updates.

    Avanti Radio!

True on the cable Gun, but I don’t think hole was drilled in body if ‘Radio Delete’ was specified.

    Avanti Radio!

    Yes… TRUE… Good thought!

    Avanti Radio!

Sorry Stacey… this cable question is TRUE!

    Avanti Radio!

    That ‘sounds’ right to me!
  10. All Studebaker Avantis were factory equipped with the long antenna cable running from dashboard to trunk… whether the car was equipped with a radio or not….. True?
  11. As Geoff said…. You nailed it!!
  12. It’s been said for a long time that Altman had to shim up the Avanti’s body to add clearance for the ‘taller’ Chevy V8… I’ve always doubted there was an engine height problem… I believe he simply thought the Studebaker Avanti’s nose down attitude did not fit his thoughts of how his new Avanti ll personal luxury car should look.
  13. A passenger in the rear seat of a Studebaker Avanti, distributes approx. …..?…..% of their body weight over the rear axle. 1) 60…..2) 75…..3) 80…..or……4) 85
  14. Black and Beautiful!!
  15. You aren’t wrong… there were about 25 twentieth anniversary models built with those features for the ‘83 model year… however, those features did not become standard across the board until ‘84.
  16. Wow…I hadn’t heard about this new oil…. Thanks!
  17. OK Bob…. Whatever you say!!!
  18. Yes true… maybe the biggest change he made on the ‘83 Avantis was the dropping of the ‘ll’ on exterior badging.
  19. It would be wonderful if that Avanti has survived… The sun roof install would certainly narrow the field!
  20. As 64studeavanti mentioned… attend to that cable adjustment just rear of the ‘X’ member!
  21. I believe that Bob’s confusion stems from the fact that both the #8 and the Due Cento were finished in ‘Avanti Red’. All I know is that if the Avanti that set the 29 International speed records at Bonneville in ‘62 was later converted into what became the Due Cento, It definitely had a Fawn/Black interior in ‘62. We musn’t ignore the fact that all these ‘EX’ Avantis had many changes made to them before being sold off!….Ed
  22. Great choice Dwight!!
  23. Gee, I don’t know about that Dwight.. I’ve seen more than one ‘Avanti Gold’ ‘63 Avanti with Fawn/Elk interior and ‘salt ‘n pepper carpeting… I actually owned one! As far as EX 2942 goes, If that Avanti indeed became the ‘ Due Cento’ in 1963, there is an issue… since in the ‘Bonneville Record Breaker’ color film, the car is clearly shown with a Fawn/ Black interior!
  24. (Resurrecting old post)…I also like the ‘56 Golden’s… They drive like no other factory V8 Studebaker, with imposing torque ‘off the line’!
  25. I lost a cylinder in the factory 305 in my ‘83 Avanti everyday driver due to a worn cam… I replaced this original motor with a ‘Goodwrench’ 305 in 2010 and that engine is still running very well…. Improvements were made in factory replacement small block Chev 305’s in ‘86-‘87.
