Do you mean the hot idle compensator?
If so it's false, it is a bi-metallic spring loaded valve that opens when hot to allow more AIR into the engine to LEAN it out . Hot gas vapor will richen a mixture....yep, even fumes will change how the car runs!

The 160 speedometer was not added to any Avanti until later on in production. ALL early cars got the 140 (Yes, even R2)

Most Stewart-Warner mechanical speedometers have a brass oil cup plug.It is located on the top of threaded part where the cable housing screws on. Remove the plug and add a few drops of sewing machine oil.
