  1. Yes, the short block was rebuilt many years ago, but the heads were not done. The last owner had someone do the heads that did not do a good job. Now they are done correctly. new valves, new guides. bronze inserts in the guides, and surfaced the gasket surface .003.

Brad. It looks like these heads had the original type head gaskets judging from the print left on the head face. Are these available?

Yes, The only thing I like about them is the copper fire ring. The new graphite gaskets seal better. These had no crush or "give" to them, and someone forgot to use tacky copper spray.

  3. There are two studs that pass through a fiberglass piece bonded to the front of the opening. There re two 3/8s nuts securing the door to the stude. Often, they will be rusted, and break off if not careful removing them. use penetrating oil and take it slow. I bent up a long reach box wrench to get on the nuts easier.

  4. The heads had a previous valve job with poor workmanship. The guides were beaten in and all bent on the top, the valves were ground so there was no margin left on the edges. I blended the pockets under the valves as there were sharp edges. Got new guides, and valves. The new guides will be bored out for bronze inserts, and positive stem seals installed. All seat and stem heights matched. Springs shimmed to proper installed height. The shortblock looked great. It was a combination of crappy gas, and poor workmanship that stuck three valves.

I have 63 round headlight Avanti R4551. It has the hood prop on the left side, the long battery, and no brace on the hood.

I have a couple of those here too. (no brace, and left prop rod)

Most of the pieces you mention were cadmium plated.    I've found a very good place for CAD plating in the Chicago area.  Look up Grove Plating in Fox River Grove, Illinois.   They usually charge now about $85 for a bucket of miscellaneous   parts.  Some larger parts are prices individually.  It helps if you can clean all the parts first by bead blasting and cleaning up with a wire wheel.

Either ship the bucket or large sturdy box to them, or if you're anywhere in northern Illinois, even within a couple hundred miles, it's usually worthwhile to drive there with your boxes and parts, and let them ship them back to you, one way.

They do not do CADMIUM plating. What you had done was bright ZINC plating a totally different metal. CADMIUM is no longer legal due to toxicity of the chemicals.

  7. The boost goes up as a square of the RPM. double the RPM get 4 times the boost. Up to a point when the tips of the impeller reach speeds where there are shockwaves, the boost stops. (The tips can actually break the sound barrier).

  8. Often a poor ground on the switch will mess with proper wiper operation. Check by clipping a ground jumper wier from the switch case to a known good ground. Then if it doesn't still work try adjusting the park position tab on the wiper motor itself.
