The power shift was the first transmission of it's kind, and was touted as a performance transmission. Car magazines gave it rave reviews.
It was the first automatic transmission touted as a high performance transmission, and driver selectable gears as well as automatic shiftng. It was very heavily advertised. That is why they outsold the 4 speed. It was advertised as the latest and greatest.

No, I think it was R-M

- Was it Ian Flemmings car?

I would tend to agree that the weight of the heavy cast iron pulley and the additional weight of the fan and thermostatic clutch is a lot for the pump to bear.

I believe they call it "Body in white" regardless of the color!

R3's and R4's said use SUPER PREMIUM FUEL

For instruments, you still need LED's that have an array so it puts out light in all directions. The stacked small dash gauges use a box the bulb is mounted in and diffused light is the only source of light. With direct lights in the other gauges it ma not be as much of a problem. The clocks take a clear bulb as there is a red filter inside that makes the light red.

4.4:1 .......false

You don't have to find the 57 bulb to find a compatable LED. Just the base has to fit and work. Look for a Ba9s base, and you will have many ,many to choose from. For the brightest LED's search for Cree LED's.

I should have looked in the shop manual, or on the many in the shop, instead of the internet! ....Bob Johnstones website has it wrong too.

later ones would have the Rochester quadrajet as opposed to the AFB.

The Forged True pistons were a bit looser (in the bores), and the wrist pins were floated in the pistons.

Oil filler on the valve covers instead of tube pressed into intake manifold

True...MDY is the regular non R series starter.
FWIW the Delco is a better starter, and can be retrofitted with 4 field coils ala-Pontiac.

thicker oil increases friction, no matter what the snake oil salesman tells you.

Where do you get that idea? The R3 pumps were identical to regular Studebaker oil pumps, except the housing and gears were 1/4" longer.

piston wrist pins scoring the cylinder walls

New oil pumps from Paradise wheels are an improved design, with a larger piston diameter for more volume and pressure.

False, the other way around.

I vaguely remember seeing something like this advertised in Turning Wheels in the 80's. I think from Brazil, or some other South American country.
