Not really Leo.....Studebaker offered a kit which increased engine idle speed for air conditioned cars when the A/C was turned on......however, the throttle kicker (dashpot) functions differently...It is meant to 'kick' the idle speed up when the engine is about to stall (for various reasons, usually in real hot weather)...The sudden loss of vacuum in a stalling engine causes the dashpot plunger to extend, thereby pushing the throttle open a bit, and eliminating a possible engine stall.
An R2 , 4 speed Avanti benefits from this device as much as an R1 automatic would!
Thanks for clarifying 👍

If the car has air conditioning and / or an automatic transmission, then the automatic and AC loads the engine variably. The Dashpot/Kicker ensures that the engine idle speed changes taking into account the load variation. ( the effect is in automatic, for example, when you come to traffic lights and the revs fall quickly). Thus, the R2 4 Speed without Air Condition does not need a kicker.
Are my toughts correct?🤔
Edit:
I found this from blog. ://www.carburetor-blog.com/carburetor-dashpot/ -
Hi James R-3890. I found this from SDC-forum. Read more.
Hope this helps.
The photo I took is very close reality. Note that Avanti Gray is not pure silver gray (like Mercedes)
My opinon is that this one is also correct. In a daylight of course lighter. Photo by Tim Costello.

Thats very interesting. I did get a PPG code that I was told may need some small adjustments. Do you have any info to narrow down the complete mix or number?
Thank you for the info!
I'm sorry, but I don't have a color recipe. I bought this car last year. The car was painted more than ten years ago. It is easy to find areas where the original paint is visible and it is 99% the same. I also have an original color scheme that is very similar.
You find it here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/174327964936?hash=item2896c1a508:g:XgwAAOSwzvde88Tt -

Well, that means he thinks yours looks just as nice😉
Thank you Mfg and Pantera928. The Avanti Gray is very special because it has Blue and Lavender shade. Depend of the light and angle how you look the paint.

Is this Avanti owned by Jack Rodhouse of Mass?...He owns one of the nicest 'Avanti Gray' 1963 Studebaker Avantis in the U.S.
Hi Mfg, This is my R2. 😊

Hello Leo, I am running Dayco belts on my R2. The SC belts are #15545 they fit but they are very tight you may have to roll them on. The alternator is #15435 and it puts you at the mid point of adjustment, it works very well. The PS pump is #15375 this also puts you at the mid point of adjustment. these are .44 inches in width and the last 3 digits are the length in inches, ie: 375 is 37.5 inches. Good luck with your project, John C.
Hi John C. I got Two Continental #15556 and they are perfect for SC. Easy to install and still tight.

Yes, you can 'stack' those gaskets..They will work just as well as the factory 1/4" thick carb-to- manifold gasket!
👍Thank you mr mfg

I only see 4. There should be a stack of three. 4 might be too soft, and risk damaging the fragile corners of the carb when tightened down.
Yes 4 of course 😅 Thank you for your help

J series plugs have 3/8" reach. H series plugs are 7/16". The thread on both is 1.25mm which is roughly 20 tpi for us non-metric folks. The difference in reach is 1/16". That is approx 1.25 threads. The 1.25 thread difference is likely not significant.
Since your motor was not a combination engineered by Studebaker, I would start with Autolite 437 or equivalent and check the plugs after a couple thousand miles to determine if you need to go hotter or colder.

I believe the H series plugs have a 7/16" reach. I do not believe H14Y are available. However many have been successfully using Autolite 437.
Yes.
Champion H14Y 7/14" 11,2mm reach and J12Y 3/12" 9,5mm reach.

Autolite 437 = Champ H14Y

I bought used Carter 3507S and ordered Repair Kit from SI.
Do I need also thick Insulator Spacer. I think so. Where to find correct one? Something else also? Special Seals between manifold and Carburetor.
Edit: I noticed that there are 5 seals in the repair kit. Is the meaning that I should use all of them between Carb and manifold. Will they work as a seal + insulator? And thats all I need? -
Note. If had original one and you buy a new pump, you need also new size fittings (bigger).

Hi, Thanks. I Understand. Heads are different (combustion chamber) https://www.studebaker-info.org/Tech/Heads/Headcasting.html
There for Head 535976 is thicker in the plug area and has more threads. I will use H14Y 1/2 reach instead of J-series 3/8 reach.
-
OK. Rockauto.com suggest H14Y for Golden Hawk. I have understood that Golden Hawk has 535976 Head and Dished Pistons.
I thought that Golden Hawk Head difference the to R2 Head is that 535976 combustion chamber is smaller (more to piston area) and there for the spark plug threads can be longer. I dont have R2 head to compare. -
Hi, Correct Spark Plug for R2 seems to be for example Champion J12YC. But I have dished pistons and Golden Hawk head and Paxton. Should I choose Champion like RH10C which is recommered to Golden Hawk? These pistons and head means also that my R2 has lower compression that factory Avanti R2.
Edit: I have R2 Carburetor 3507S -
Thank you 64studeavanti. I have to admit I didn't even realize to look the shop manual. Stupid and normal me. First trying to do evertything by myself and after mistakes I open the manual or guide book. Well... this is one way to learn. 🤣

Hi, Please help me to find Manual for R2 Carter 3507S.
I bought this last year and need to strip down and rebuilt. I have Repair Kit. Better to check all parts etc.
Does this work for well for 3507S? Same basic adjustments?
https://www.carburetor-parts.com/assets/manuals/carter-afb-emanual.pdfEdit: I found this also https://www.studebaker-info.org/Tech/Carbfiles/EarlyAfb/Rcarbs.html
Maybe with these informations, things will work out?🤔

Twin Traction ?
in 1963-64 Avanti
Posted
Hi,
I have a plate which has a text "Twin Traction Axle..." also a plate with T-letter.
But there is nothing about TT in my R2 Born report. Reason might be that my car is 99 Tag Las Vegas Driveaway Avanti. Dont know is that the reason.
World is fulloff fakes. I like to be sure. In the photo you see without Filling Plug. Wheels dont turn same direction like I tought. Might be that Discs are not in good shape.
Is this Twin Traction?
