    Odd Avanti!

Yes they were Dwight… but that isn’t the oddity on 63R1319. SO!…… The odd feature on this Avanti was … a THREE SPEED WITH OVERDRIVE TRANSMISSION !! I’d certainly guess installed after this Avanti R2 was built…. But that’s how 63R1319 was advertised for sale!
  3. Great news! I finally found a good shop in my area willing to tackle the removal of my transmission. They had to cut a section of the right side exhaust pipe for clearance, but got it out. The torque convertor snout was worn and causing premature wear on the front seal and the pump bushing. Hopefully a new convertor and seals will finally stop all the leakage!
  4. That is interesting… I’d guess someone mistook a 1 for a 2 TWICE!! I have no idea where that PO# you mention can be found on Stude Avantis…. However, I’d like to know!!
  5. I appreciate the tip. However on my car, the linkage that moves the lever on the steering collumn (from the transmision) is not there. So the switch does not move.

  7. 2) Dropped front suspension spindles IIRC dropped spindles were used at Bonneville
  8. Thanks for asking. No, I'm referring to the Production Order Line Number as listed in the Line Number Box on the Passenger Car Production Order form and the multipage Vehicle Inspection Report. Also, my '63 R2 VIN is R2470 and the handwritten inner door number you mentioned is 1470 on both doors. Interesting.
  9. I’ve seen serial number hand written on inner door (upholstery removed) Is that what you mean by production number?
  10. Here's an Avanti trivia question from the quiz at the recent Palm Springs Meet. Name two places where you find your Studebaker Avanti’s production number hand written on parts of the car.
  11. Thanks, I did remove the caps from the rocker shafts to clean it out,,,

    Odd Avanti!

Don't tell me that R1319 had a vinyl roof.....

    Odd Avanti!

I remember hearing about that Avanti, however, that car is not the subject of this trivia question… so #1 isn’t the answer here.

  15. I’ll say #1…I remember Studebaker made an Avanti for a car show event that had one vinyl covered front seat and one leather covered…don’t remember whether it was a high back but possibly could be this car.
  16. It's time to let Thea go. I've enjoyed her and enjoy my crude restorations (I've never started on this one), but this sale will benefit McPherson College's Auto Restoration program, so others will know how to do it right, and even make a career of it. Solid frame and hog troughs, and a really nice driver! https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1980-avanti-avanti-ii-2/?utm_source=Iterable&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Bid_Placed_Seller

Hello all I have lurked the forum to learn more about these cars. I fell in love with these cars over 50 years ago. I wanted one then as a kid fresh out of high school. I lived in Chicago then. I found a R2 in a newspaper ad an went to see it. I loved it. Only problem was I lacked most of the $4000 asking price. No matter how much I begged. Dad would not loan me the money. I ended up buying a turbocharged Corvair instead. I'm interested in an Avanti II with the Chevrolet engines and GM transmissions. I have a line on what appears to be a nice one. Being old school. I'm going in person next week to inspect and drive the car. I just can't buy/ship a car sight unseen. Look forward to future ownership and getting to know others who love these cars as well. I consider the cars a rolling art form. Loved it when I found out it was designed in forty days. Reminded me of another genius I admire. Frank Lloyd Wright and the story behind the design of his masterpiece. Falling Water. He drew it out in less than 3 hours. I can't afford a Wright home. Yet I am able to purchase a different design masterpiece. from other forward thinking brilliant men. At 70 years old it's now or never. Wish me luck.
  26. Also, the later Avanti ll rubber hose that connects the external gas inlet tube to the gas tank inlet tube is molded in two different diameters… smaller diameter at tank inlet….. These special hoses are available through Avanti parts vendors. (Stude Avantis and earlier Avanti ll’s external gas inlet tube and tank inlet tube are same diameter.)
