  3. At 6:36 pm PT on January 3 2026 I attempted to access the SDC Forum from a PC, but I still can't get in.
  4. Quick ratio steering.
  5. Power steering was installed In Avanti R5642 (second to last Avanti produced), several years after it was built….. What made this Studebaker Avanti particularly difficult to steer ‘as built’?
  6. Late in 1963, a subsidiary of Studebaker Corp. began a national contest for their salesmen… The salesman that sold the most of their product would win a new Studebaker Avanti…Which division of Studebaker was this? 1) Onan Generators…. 2) Chemical Compounds…..3) Clarke Floor Machine…..or …..4) Paxton Products

    Avanti Count!

That’s what I thought.. however, we were wrong!
  11. I say the only Avanti Studebaker brought was the one awarded to Roger Ward for winning the race.
  12. 1963r2

    Avanti Count!

Since 1962 would have been them showing off what they were about to build I think 3.
  15. Two seems like a reasonable number, so I'll say 2). --Dwight
  16. I saw one of these at the vendor display during the AOAI/SDC dual meet. Now I want to purchase one in good to excellent condition.
  17. In May of 1962, Studebaker brought…..?….. of their new Avantis to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to be used for pre race activities on and off the track. 1) One…..2) Two…..3) Three….or…..4) Four
  18. Rodgers bracket is for a Sanden 508. I made my own bracket, and used a 7176 series. it is serpentine. They do make them in V-belt too.
  19. Delco used white lithium grease in their switches, I am inclined to believe that this would be excellent in these switches as well.
  20. No, but what I should have said was the PCV (not EGR) started in 1962/63. I dunno what I was thinking (another old age brain fart). Thanks for correcting me. I will edit my earlier post.
  21. If my funds were not tied up I would be a serious buyer..

    Stude V8 Swap?

Skip Did you mean 1972 and 1973 for EGR?
  23. Still not available for me.

    Stude V8 Swap?

    True…. VERY THANKFULLY!!!!!
  25. Both the engine and T-10 trans in my 74 Avanti are original to the car. The engine is Chevrolet orange. Both the bell housing and trans are unpainted aluminum. I also have five (1962-1995) Chevys with their original V8s and standard (3, 4, 5, and 6-speed) transmissions. They all have painted bell housings and unpainted transmissions. I don't think GM painted their standard transmissions.
  26. I was able to access the site this morning, join the forum and view threads and posts.
  27. True, but that depends on the model year. [Edit: PCV] valves started in 1962 in California and nationwide in 1963. Various other systems were added in later years (usually more in Calif). Probably the worst year was 1974, when the various systems (and things like revised ignition timing) really strangled horsepower. The adoption of catalytic converters in 1975 allowed the manufacturers to remove some of that stuff -- but others (air injection pumps, etc) were added in subsequent years. There's an interesting conflict/conundrum WRT our cars: Federal law prohibits the removal of any mandated emissions equipment -- but doesn't require the manufacturers to continue to keep such stuff available. So some of us have had to completely remove emissions systems because the parts to fix it were NLA. In addition (and probably most importantly), the EPA allows the states to exempt vehicles with historic/antique license plates from emissions inspection. So if you have historic tags, you can pretty much modify your car any way you want. (That said, some states require cars with antique/historic tags to be unmodified. However, their ability to enforce such rules is pretty limited.)
