You certainly do have to remove some rear rail I just can't remember how much.
Now the question is whether 8 inches is to much or not. I will go with true but with no conviction.

I wonder if it's a trick question,
My answer is yes, they use a little cover to replace the oil filter base mounting on the block . The cover allows the oil to flow through the passages and continue on its route. A partial flow filter off the head is used to filter the oil.
Especilally handy on rhd cars were the reach rod strikes the oil filter and restricts your turning ability.

I forget what series Landrover, but the Landrover gearbox mount is very similar to the motor mount on the Stude.

Thinking out loud, is there some type of thin strip of adhesive rubber or foam type material that you could attach to the inner frame of the window to provide a seal that way.
