The pivots I was taking about are at the bottom. I will recheck my windows went I get a chance.

I have found they sometimes seize up where the pivot pin goes through the bush.
If you can get access maybe some penetrating lubricant in that area will free it up.

Alternator and idler arm

The fellow who bought an Avanti for $100 really did get a bargain then.

From memory the striker only has 2 holes they attach too but don't quote me as I haven't seen mine for a while.
Hawk and Lark strikers will not work so you need to get the Avanti one. Not sure if they are available new but there should be a few second hand ones around.
I might even have one but I'm sure there are plenty in the US. Try Myers Studebaker .

Sad News
I too enjoyed his contribution to the Avanti marque.

Internal rollcage?

I will have 3 guesses.
Did they make a wooden buck for the clay model ?
Did they supply the timber for the wheel cover ?
Last but not least did they supply any woodgrain finished interior pieces?

Sherwood Egberts Avanti.
Without him they wouldn't exist.

Supercharger belts slipping,

They would also have a different steering arm if you include that as part of the box.

I thought the air filter might be different in design.

True
And I believe that the quick steer manual version utilises the power steering ratio.

I'm sure anything can be made to fit but the Avanti rear sway bar is different to the Hawk so not a direct swap. True

I will go out on a limb and say the originals did have access and the repos don't.

If you have a look at your latch on the door you will see a cone shaped section. Under that you will see a little piece of steel protruding from the latch body.
That piece works off a spring and moves in and out depending on if the door is open or closed. From memory that piece needs to be pushed in for the locking mechanism to work.
You can test that by holding it in and turning the key to see if the lock now works ( with the door open). If it does work then your problem is the catch on the door pillar. The catch on your door pillar pushes that piece inward when the door is closed allowing the lock to work. Over time that little piece wears a groove in the catch to a point where it no longer fully depresses the piece inward and your lock no longer works.
Have a look in that area first.

I never really liked the Avanti that much. I saw them in books etc but they never really appealed to me. Then in the early 90's I saw a friends 63 (R4) and I was in shock.
It was beautiful, I couldn't look at it enough. I couldn't believe how modern it looked and that it was the same car I saw in those books. I had to have one from that point on.
I figured that maybe Avanti's aren't that photogenic and really need to be seen in the raw to get a full appreciation.

The steering box
-
From memory you have to unscrew the main plate from the console to access tabs on the rear. Then gently lift the tabs on the outer cover that surrounds the a/c vents so the front cover pulls off. Once off the vents should fall out.

That looks an unusual colour for an Avanti in the first brochure.
Any thoughts on the colour or is it a trick of the light ?
