I'll take a SWAG...the first Avanti with a 160 mph speedometer?
Maybe but my R2 (1499) has a 140 mph speedo. Unless it was changed at some point.

I think it would have been hammered so 1968.

I think the R3 was , not sure of the R4.

Maybe It depends on what they were publicising. I could see if The story was about Sherwood then yes, if not then no.
So I think sometime yes sometime no so false for me.

Replacement engine?
-
Thanks for that.
I was wondering about the lower connection point, if you used the original location the belt would interfere with access to the rear seats.
I see anchor point at the bottom of the roll bar alleviates that problem and the retractor sits in the ashtray location.
Once again thanks for the photos and measurements, I will use them tomorrow.

Regarding the Avanti II three point seat belt harness.
I assume 2 of the points are the locations of the original seat belts on the earlier Avanti's and the third is somewhere on the roll cage.
Does anyone have a photo and measurements of that 3rd location and the location of the retractor if they had one.
I would like to add this 3rd point to my 63 Avanti whilst it is apart.
Thanks for your help.
Thanks

Yes you can move the seat further back. It has been done before, I will let those who have done it explain how,.
I believe you can also change steering wheels. Grant do an adaptor for the Avanti to fit other steering wheels.

With the empahsis being on early, i say they were already blacked out by Studebaker.

I would have thought the more options the better so I will guess at 9

Thanks Silver
I will happily use this when it comes to putting things back together.

Re clock
Not sure if this will help but my clock did not work either until I sprayed some lubricant inside it.
It started working then. Things were a little dry in there causing too much friction for the fine gears/cogs to move.

Has anyone got a source for the wiper motor wiring?
I'm talking about the connection block and wiring to the motor itself, not the main wiring harness.
My wiring is brittle and has been painted over and I thought of replacing it with a new, nicer section.
I have spoken to D Bass and he no longer has any sections left.
Thanks

Probably the last R3 but for me it would be Egbert's car.

My serial number starts at the smaller of the 2 top crossmember holes ie the one with the welded nut. You have to look hard. I have a D 11 also stamped but like yours its probably a pressing number.

I will have a look at my Chassis. It could be Avanti 11 but I suspect it is just the pressing/part number for that brace.

Thanks. pb.
Maybe Studebaker (Or the Feds!) knew the tubular rear crossmember would rust out!
I’ll check my 1966 Avanti II (RQ-A0090) and see if the number’s there.

Yes, as they were Studebaker frames I wonder if it was already stamped with a number for the relevant Studebaker Avanti which never got built or it got an A11 number, if anything at all.

The hidden number on the Studebaker Avanti was on the cross member above the diff or at least it was on my one.

There have certainly been a few converted to Rhd but I'm not aware of any being produced at the factory.
I take your point though, I assume all Rhd studes had that option available to them.

Perhaps this is eliminating the spin on, full flow system, oil filter for a right hand drive
Its obviously not rhd, but maybe the X89 has some effect on how the code is read.

This car fascinates me. Lots of stories but which one is true
I thought I read that Fleming had to push hard for Black as it wasn't being offered at the time? Was it a one off or was it the start of Black being an option again?
I have also read that it was in a wrecking yard in the UK and maybe destroyed.
I wrote to Flemings stepson years ago and he didnt know what happened to it.
I emailed an author who wrote a book on Fleming. He was surprised that the car had so much attention ( sounded like he had been asked the question numerous times). He was sure the car went to Flemings friend Hilary Bray. For you 007 fans you might recognise the name as it was the main character played by James Bond in On Her Majesty's Secret Service. Fleming often used his friends and enemies names in books.
I think a careful analysis of production orders with all available photos it should be identified or at least narrowed down to a few vehicles.
I have seen a photo of the Avanti with 'TT' symbols on it, maybe that's on the order or maybe installed later.
If what MFG states is correct maybe we already have that answer.
I look forward to the production order being posted tomorrow and really hope the car, in any condition, is still around.

Thanks
I have had a good look and can see traces of Gold paint under the black in the engine bay.
Body colour it is.
Thanks for your input.
