  1. I am trying to piece together my cars history and found a really poor photo of it in the digital copy of this issue. I would like to get an original of this issue if anyone out there has one and would like to sell it or even donate it to my cause... Thanks

Are you sure of the month and year? I have Summer 1986 ( #58 ) and Winter 1986 ( #59). If I have what you need I can send it to you.

  2. Just some more information for those who may be interested in the production figures for the 1983 and 1984 Avantis.

The starting serial numbers and production numbers are from John Hull's book, Avanti The Complete Story.

    Model year 1983 3590 - 3776 187

    20th Anniversary 3801 - 3825 25

    Total 212

The cars listed on Bob Johnstones web site start at 3592 and end with 3776. Also the 20th Anniversary models 3802 and the last 3825.

    Model year 1984 3850 - 4114 265

There are 130 cars listed starting with the first 3850 and ending with the last 4114.

Quote from John's book: " I believe it to be the most accurate projections ever compiled on actual production data."

The info on Bob's website seems to confirm this.

  3. Bob, I really don't understand your point,... The fact is 1983 was the highest 'production year' for post Studebaker Avantis, and, through 1991,....'91 was the lowest......There's no use in trying to re-create history Bob,....but 'be my guest' if you feel like trying!!

The point is that 1984 (265) is the highest production year and not 1983 (212). If you check the serial numbers from John Hull's book with the cars on Bob's web site you will see this is fact.

The serial numbers for the 1991 start at 1201 and end at 1217. You say only seven were built, yet there are 11 on Bob's site with the

    highest being 1213.

Do you have evidence to prove otherwise?

Unless you do I have to believe that John Hull's figures are accurate.

  4. Well, you can start with Bob Johnstones Avanti Registry if you'd like....And by the way, there's NO WAY 17 Avanti's were produced in 1991!..........7 would be more like it!

That only confirms the production numbers that John Hull gives are accurate.

  5. As 1986 is considered a non-production year for the Avanti,.....The CORRECT answer to Gary's original question would be.....Lowest...1991......Highest...1983.

PS---Sorry guys, but we may as well get it right!)

Can you prove you are correct?

In John Hull's book he shows the 1984 Avanti production at 265 and 1983 production at 212. Do you have anything to prove him wrong?

I would think his figures would be accurate.

1991 is the the lowest at 17.

  6. I've never seen anything to indicate otherwise. They were listed as Option (5) for the 1964's

I believe they were first used by the Grannatellis at Bonneville?

    So, TRUE.

False. Halibrand wheels were not installed at the factory. They were dealer installed and (5) is not an option number.

  7. The second cowl intake no doubt does deliver a bit more air to the driver's side air vent, but I'd agree with Gunslinger than its true reason for 'being' was to cool down the transmission tunnel area and floor shifter assy.....Answer....FALSE!

The second cowl intake does not provide the air to cool the transmission tunnel area and the shifter. It only provides more air to the inside of the car.

That area is cooled from the larger cowl intake. A console cooling kit uses tubes and hoses and directs fresh air from the cowl to the underside of the console to cool the trans tunnel and shifter.

Used only on cars without air conditioning.

  8. Studebaker Avanti R3 tachometers used the same tach sender as R1 & R2 tachometers used.....True?

    True and false.

True if the R1 and R2 had a transistorized ignition system.

False if the R1 and R2 had a standard ignition system.
