  1. His last home was in Monte Carlo, Monaco. He previously maintained at homes at La Cense, Road 988, Rochefort-en-Yvelines, France, and in Palm Springs, California, 600 West Panorama Road.

I've been at his Palm Springs and Rochefort, France homes, but never in Monte Carlo..... (sigh).

La Cense is an equestrian riding stable adjoining a fine restaurant. The home is currently undergoing a total restoration.

No clue on what the telephone numbers were. RL's TELEX address was "LORAMO"

  2. studegard,...If you do undertake this job, it sure would be a good time to change out all the red instrument light bulbs with new ones....and also a great opportunity to look over and repair the underdash wiring, wiper mechanism lubrication, renew the radio, etc.....Good luck

While you have the dash removed from the car, I agree that it is a good time to replace the instrument light bulbs with new red bulbs.... but even better, replace them with red LED bulbs. There was a good tech article by new AOAI board member Bill Henderson in Avanti Magazine Issue #167 last fall, which includes the company to order from. Several have used the LED bulbs from this company and they love how it improves the dash gauge lighting. The bulbs are direct replacements for the originals.

Call and order them from mustang project.com.. 1-800-631-0507. They offer the Avanti kit in white, blue or the factory original red. Cost of each kit is $49.95. If your call and order, tell them you heard about them from Avanti Magazine.

  3. The Sci-Fi movie was Gattica with Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman. The two Avantis shown in the move are owned by southern California member Dan Skidmore, a docent at the Petersen's Automobile Driving Museum.

"Pursuit of Happiness" also has an Avanti in it, and of course, the Karate Kid includes an Avanti convertible.

  4. Answer is actually FALSE. The car sold for $74,800 plus a 10% buyer's premium, making the total amount $82,280. The Gooding and Co. auction was held in January 2013 in Scottsdale, Arizona. Check Avanti Magazine #161 for the complete story.

It is the 4th production Avanti sold.

  5. The turquoise license plate says "Avanti by Studebaker" and was on this same 1964 Avanti when it was on display at the New York Auto Show in the fall of 1963. R-4892 is also the first 1964 Avanti that included all the 1964 updates. Earlier vin numbers may have had square headlight surrounds, one color interiors and/or woodgrain in the dash, but this was the first 1964 Avanti with all updates.

  6. When you remove the rear shelf, there are two or three tabs at the front edge that hold the front of the shelf onto the black u-shape metal bar that is screwed to the rear trunk panel. Simply rotate those tabs to disengage the front of the shelf from the metal bar, and then remove the screws that hold the metal tabs to the rear and sides of the trunk opening.

If you are changing the interior vinyl colors, then you will need to also remove the vinyl that is glued onto the fiberglass above the fuel tank (where the rear radio speaker is located).

  7. When I checked the web site, it says the "Looking Back ToThe Future" DVD is NOT available. Status?

    Dennis

Sorry Dennis. We got a new supply of DVDs in stock and I updated the website to make the item for sale.

  8. Loewy was standing beside his silver Avanti, a 1972 model, with both in front of an Air France Concorde jet. The photo is on the front side of the "Looking Back to the Future" DVD that the AOAI is selling through Avanti Magazine and the AOAI website.
