  1. Anyone who considered ordering a 1964 Avanti equipped with an R3 or R4 engine had to accept a major negative which did not apply to Avantis equipped with an R1 or an R2 engine. What was that negative?

  2. Torque converter (front pump seal), throttle and shift levers, driveshaft yolk, dipstick tube, vent breather, pan gasket (bent or over torqued pan).

Go to the head of the class!

  3. No, the boost is dependent on the impeller to scroll cover clearence. But you're right, if the impeller drags on the cover it won't last long!

Agreed!...Shimming back the impeller is done for increased supercharger boost. You make a good point about getting it too close to the rear plate!

  4. The zinc additive is a good idea for any 'flat tappet' equipped engine. But I don't think that's the problem here. More than likely your Avanti engine needs a valve lash adjustment. That probably hasn't been done in a long time. And Avanti 'R' engines, with their performance camshaft, need this attention more frequently than a normal Stude V8. (As the engine warms up the valve lash increases)

  5. The left side grille directs more air to the drivers side fresh air vent. The console was cooled from the right side grille. A Console Cooling Kit was made available for earlier models.

Hmmmm....now that you mention it, by George I think you're RIGHT!
