  1. I've seen at least one other variation, I'll say true.

    I'd say false on this one. Studebaker had a rather strange looking 'Avanti' script on at least one pre-production car...that was later changed to the script we all know..so I'd say there were two versions done by Studebaker. A third 'modernized' version was introduced in the late Blake era, but those weren't Studes.

  2. Right!..I have an old copy of 'Popular Science' where they tested a pre-production Avanti R2. The engine had the standard Studebaker V8 yellow painted rocker covers with the orange oil caps! The R2 air filter housing appeared to be painted black!

Trivia....As Studebaker engineers had pulled a 'round light' '63 Avanti (R-4130) off the assembly line ahead of time to fashion most of the changes made for the '64 'square light' models, there was no need to shut down the assembly line before '64 'square light' Avanti production began....True?
