Wow!...This is the kind of rare info I like! TRUE it is! Check out the wheelcovers in this pic!
-
I've seen at least one other variation, I'll say true.
I'd say false on this one. Studebaker had a rather strange looking 'Avanti' script on at least one pre-production car...that was later changed to the script we all know..so I'd say there were two versions done by Studebaker. A third 'modernized' version was introduced in the late Blake era, but those weren't Studes.
-
Right! 'Momo' was the other wheel option. (I believe the 'standard' wheel was sourced from AMC)
-
Right!..I have an old copy of 'Popular Science' where they tested a pre-production Avanti R2. The engine had the standard Studebaker V8 yellow painted rocker covers with the orange oil caps! The R2 air filter housing appeared to be painted black!
-
No, the R2 carb will work fine on an R1, but a R1 on an R2 engine will leak like a sieve and possibly ruin the floats.

Trivia...'In a pinch' an Avanti R1 carb can be used on an R2 engine (with functioning blower), but an R2 carb will not work on an R1 engine....True?

Trivia....The style or 'font' of the Avanti nose panel script was changed by Studebaker three times.....True?
-
Trivia...Some of the earliest Avanti 'R' engines were assembled without the chromed engine parts we would normally see....True?
-
Correct! (R.L. wanted an 'exposed' spare...to be seen through the back window, on some type of fancy wheel. Deemed to expensive for production)
-
Correct!, (Don't ask me either !!!)
-
Agreed! (And thanks for that very clear explanation.)

-
Trivia....As Studebaker engineers had pulled a 'round light' '63 Avanti (R-4130) off the assembly line ahead of time to fashion most of the changes made for the '64 'square light' models, there was no need to shut down the assembly line before '64 'square light' Avanti production began....True?
