Yes, brad's 'been there' and has probably seen this issue. In all honesty, the two paint formulas really are 'night and day'....to the point where they look like completely different colors.(I'd like to qualify that statement by saying-- That's how it was when using the original lacquers, modern paint versions of 'Avanti Turquoise' from the two companies just might be 'Right On'!)
-
True, my mindset is always will it work and fit. Like you say, if it's the only set you have to work with you'd be fine using them.
I'm in complete agreement.
-
I probably should have written 'Studebaker engineering', or 'Experimental paint shop'. Anyone else have an opinion on this?
-
Although solids may have been installed 'after the fact' in your friend's Camaro engine, The 300 horsepower 327 was the 'gentlemans' 327,...and it definitely left the factory with hydraulic valve lifters.
-
WOW!....You guys have really 'been there' with these cars!....but by answering FALSE, 'dapy' gets this one....Avanti cowl panels rarely ever crack at their center point, near the left (driver's) windshield wiper pivot...unless perhaps the crack occured from accident damage....Good call 'dapy'! (Now, cracks at the right (passenger) pivot are a completely different ball game!)
-
OK, I'll bite; seems plausible to me. Although as I recall it was the late 70's when they reached their production high point?

Good thought...but '82 isn't correct...without giving up the year, does anyone else want to take a shot at this?
-
A common place for the Avanti's fiberglass body to develop stress cracks, on the '63-'85 models, is toward the center of the cowl panel (under the windshield) near the left windshield wiper pivot.....True?
-
Studebaker engineers painted a pre-production '63 Avanti a silver color similar to the 1962 passenger car color 'Metallic Silver Poly' (Stude code P-6214)...(Experimental paint)........True?
-
Answer...FALSE!......The tires are original too!!
-
More '82 Avantis are registered in the AOAI than any other 'post Studebaker' year.....True?
-
Excepting for the inevitable ever so slight color variance between mixes, The Dupont version of "Avanti Turquoise" (Dupont code 4444L) should look the same as the Ditzler (PPG) (Ditzler code12525) version of "Avanti Turquoise"........True? (Studebaker code P-6332)

The 12V wire to the ignition coil is remaining hot...indicating a defective ignition switch.... OR ...the green/black wire from the starter solenoid (which gives a shot of straight 12V to the coil to assist starting) is remaining 'hot', indicating a defective starter solenoid. Keep battery disconnected till the problem is resolved.
-
well, what about the two Avanti turquoise's then?
Believe it or not....THAT was to be my next trivia question!!!....I'll post it tomorrow.
-
False, there are two on each venturi.....so that's at least 8
Front venturis (primaries) are not to be sealed...so EIGHT screws is the wrong answer.....but is SEVEN screws the correct answer...Anyone?
-
True, any Stude with the Dana 44 (U bolt spacing) from those years would work
They would interchange, but are definitely not identical due to the completely different rear sway bar mounting.....Answer...False!
-
Opinions?
-
Sorry guys,....The Corvette 327 used in these Avantis was the 300 horse version....with hydraulic lifters...Answer.....FALSE!
-
Good answer....But the actual answer to this question is TRUE! (RQA 0298)
-
I have felt neglected here since trivia started.
Well then come in out of the cold Mr.dapy! No need to feel neglected here....you're among friends!
-
False.
False is correct......The battery was relocated into the heater plenum area!
-
The 'Due Cento' Avanti, as run at Bonneville in 1963, carried a stock heater / defroster assy. The coolant lines from the engine to the heater were disconnected and plugged.....True?
-
False, The tire tools don't count I'll bet.
You're correct!....no tools included from factory....Tire tools don't count.
-
The tool pouch, fastened to the trunk forward wall of many 'post Studebaker' Avantis, came with a compliment of simple hand tools....True?
-
Since the original question was asked for the Avanti II, is the radiator support function different on a 1963-64 Studebaker Avanti?
I would say no....sometimes I feel like Avanti ll owners are neglected on these trivia questions....so I threw the '66 Avanti ll in there! (Although on Studebaker Avantis factory equipped with R3 engines, the air filter housing may also be supported by the radiator support?....That would definitely be a question for Brad!)
Sealed Carb
in Avanti Trivia
Posted
Brad...You were correct by saying 'at least eight', but the answer to the original question would be FALSE, as the question specified 'seven' screws. Correct 'per manual answer to this would be 'twelve'. ( In all honesty, and from personal experience, I believe the number of screws to be sealed would be you're original eight'...but you were (I believe) counting the primary venturi retaining screws..I realize that the factory says 'seal them', and it doesn't hurt to carefully do that,...but in reality, unlike on the secondary side, the primary venturi retaining screws screw into 'blind holes' on these AFB carbs
