    Avanti #28!

Before the #28 Twenty Four Hour of Daytona Avanti race car was built, Steve Blake figured the ‘in house’ construction cost would be approx ……?……. 1) $9,000…..2) $13,000…3) $17,000… or…..4) $22,000

    Speedy Stude!

I don’t think I’d want to be in the car at that point… but yes, 65 MPH is the answer! (According to Bill Carroll’s evaluation of the #3 Bonneville prepped Studebaker Daytona.)

    Speedy Stude!

Yes, that engine would be revving up quite high, however 55 MPH isn’t the answer!

    Speedy Stude!

Great looking R3 tach… thanks for posting! However 60 MPH is not the answer!
  8. A 1964 Studebaker Daytona, equipped with the optional R3 engine, four speed transmission, and 3.31 rear end ratio, was/is capable of an honest …..?….. MPH in first gear. 1) 50…..2) 55…..3) 60….or.…4) 65
  9. Any brake fluid under the car?… kind of sounds like a rusted steel brake line blew.
  10. I wouldn’t be too concerned about the cat if you plan to eliminate the air pump….. The system needs all of its components functioning to work as designed… If you eliminate the air pump, you may as well as change over to a factory style, much more efficient, true dual exhaust system, as one would find on a circa 1968 Avanti ll… It will bolt right on.
  11. Any good auto body & paint supplier in your area can photograph a pre cleaned area on your Avanti with their color camera, which can formulate a solution that can then be used to mix any amount of paint you desire.

Speedway Motors also has a P/N 917347 aluminum radiator that may work for you …$130. ( older price)

    Radiator

You might get in touch with Universal Parts (Humbolt, Iowa) for their P/N CR9606 aluminum radiator 19”X 28”…. $140 (older price)
  14. I’ve changed out heater cores on three (?) Avantis, but not lately! Cannot think of anything you’ve missed… but do you have an Avanti workshop manual which you can refer to?
  15. Lew’s the man!!

    No thoughts here?
  19. The engine number on my 56J looks like that (K1021)…. The ‘K’ is very faint but the ‘1021’ is deep & clear.
  20. Very interesting story Bob… thanks!
  21. The concept has the flared out fenders that I believe Loewy considered early on.
  22. One can just make out the original Studebaker Avanti styling touches in those artist renderings!
  23. Suggestion….. remove trunk lid and place on padded bench (inverted) so you aren’t fighting gravity) Before loosening, run marking pen around eight mounting bolt washers so you don’t lose adjustment

    Avanti Fuel!

The premium gasoline supplied to Studebaker by the Ashland Oil Company for the ‘63 Bonneville speed runs was referred to as …..?….. at the pump. 1) Sonic…..2) A Plus…….3) Rocket 93…. or ….4) Hi Sierra
  25. What GREAT responses…. Some of this text should be in AVANTI MAGAZINE!
