  2. Then You probably need to spread Your search out to other years and options. I've bought 2 Avanti's over a Years Time. My needs here are far different than Texas... for sure. One I bought off of Hemmings and it was advertised elsewhere as well.. the other came from this site.
  3. Last week
  4. Looks like the majority of 1987+ are convertibles? That's really the only deal breaker. Life is complicated enough without having a convertible. In Texas it is so hot you can only put the top down a few months of the year without baking alive.
  5. RQB3263 STILL WORKING FINE.....i see no downside ....BILL IN FLORIDA
  6. Pretty specific things your looking for. I suggest You scan thru the ones for sale here.
  7. I am looking to buy a 1987 to 1991 Avanti with GM frame. Probably not a convertible. Can be non running and/or need work. Would consider 4 door. Wanting to buy in $5K to $15K range depending on needs. Call Jon at 214 212 2501 or reply with your info
  8. My wiper switch on my 63 is not operating and from the looks of it someone has been inside it and really made a mess of things. I have had the wiper motor refurbished so I know it is good. So thinking of my options for a new switch I need to understand the motor. Is this a one speed wiper motor or two speed? I know with the resistor in the stock switch the motor can run at variable speeds. Also the wiring, I have figured out the Purple is 12V power, Blue is Park, Black runs the motor and Yellow runs the motor both at the same speed, the Red wire I am not sure about. Two options for a new switch are: painless performance 80173 (https://www.summitracing.com/parts/prf-80173?seid=srese1&gclid=CjwKCAjwrcKxBhBMEiwAIVF8rF3w6s_hYsAhZzta2WkVzqJMnKrJBIrmyKQXgc3aWIEUEIfbS_lxMxoCugAQAvD_BwE) cole hersee 75601 (https://www.amazon.com/Cole-Hersee-75601-14-BX-Switch-Dyn-Brk/dp/B005E9Z6EW?source=ps-sl-shoppingads-lpcontext&ref_=fplfs&psc=1&smid=A6AY1HFZHO49U) I am also installing a small electric washer motor for the spray option and hope to adapt the original knob to the new switch. Another thought is to take the switch to a local electric shop and see if they can put new parts inside. Anyone use either of the suggested switches or is there one someone has adapted for use? Thanks for any help, Tom
  9. Well I have been busy.... All 4 rims have been scrubbed and prepped for Saturday's Iron Chariots Car Show (4 May 2024 @ Ivor Baptist Church in Ivor, VA) . Unfortunately I see another set of rims in my future unless I can find a to get them reworked - original spoke rims.... I also got her filled with some real / non-ethanol mixture gas. ANYWAY I have put about 125 miles on RQB 3616 over the last week with the longest legs being 25ish miles each way. She maintains 65+ on the highway w/ no problems, Engine temp rides @ 185ish, Suspension is 80's smooth, steering is 80's tight. OVERALL Ride - GREAT!!! The work put in it over since I brought it home last year shows in the interior looks and overall ride. Looking forward to the next steps / efforts in the restoration (sunroof & frame wielding / cleaning and painting.
  10. Any Updates Pro / Con to the H-4 Hella LED Upgrades??
  11. I think you can get pistons from Fairborn Studebaker in Ohio. Phil Harris, ‭(937) 878-1576‬
  12. Hello everyone, I'm rebuilding my R2 and am looking for a source for forged pistons. I need flat tops +0.030. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks, John C.
  13. Yes, Studebaker made running changes and documented them by serial number in the Avanti Parts Catalog (a must-have for what you're doing). Notice your car's serial number; it contains no year designation, as did all other Studebakers. In fact, initially, Avantis DID include the model year in their serial number, starting with the first 1963 Avanti, 63R-1001. Somewhere in the 3 thousands they removed the year from the Avanti's SN. Those of us who have been Avanti fans since they were new generally refer to the round headlight cars as '63s, and the square headlight cars as '64s. But, that isn't exactly precise. The transition cars that had round headlights but mostly-64 interiors are considered by many to be '64s. The SNs of those cars are about what yours is. If you want to be authentic you should go by your car's SN to determine these issues in consultation with your Avanti Parts Catalog. Years ago, I did a thorough mechanical rebuild of a '63 Avanti and had my nose in my Avanti Parts Catalog many times. I also had taken many pictures of engine compartments of authentic '63 Avantis at Studebaker shows. These were of invaluable help for things like the curvature of vacuum lines, type of fittings, etc. I also had to re-create the return-line fitting as you are doing. I can't recall the details, though, and the car is inaccessible. Good luck. Any of us on the AOA website (and SDC website) will be glad to help with any further issues. --Dwight
  14. There are plenty in the For Sale section. Take time to go thru the listings.
  15. From what I understand, the location of the start of the return line (at the fuel pump or closer to the carburetor at the fuel filter) is not model year dependent. It was changed at a certain serial number. The Authenticity Guide indicates return line at the filter is usually seen on later '64 models.
  16. I am looking for original front and rear seats for a 1963 or 64 Avanti in solid "black." Looking for seats in excellent condition. Will purchase just the back or just the front if that's all you have. Please let me know what you might have or know about. Thank you, Jeff Email: Jeffbradel@gmail.com
  17. Don't know if this will work on Avantis, but on my 57 Tbird I had a thin wire connected in the engine compartment to the latch leading through the firewall rubber gasket and a small handle on the inside of the compartment out of the way and not visible...cheap insurance for what is a pain on those baby Tbirds...
  18. Avanti, Avanti ll, Blake Must be in good condition and automatic Ideally in Pacific NW area if possible, as I am in Port Angeles, WA Thanks, Stuart 707 799-1927, stuartkiehl@me.com
  19. Hi Jim, John Hull and another Avanti expert in Palm Springs, CA, said it is a Caprice chassis. Any thoughts on that?n Thanks for input! Stuart
  20. It sounds like your car's serial number is either R4833 or R4834, which IIRC is in the range of the "round-headlight '64s." To me those are the most interesting Avantis of all. Is your interior solid color and mostly like a '64? --Dwight (R5255, R5272, R5407)
  21. My car is all part, the engine is out for rebuild but I did find the fuel pump and the restrictor is on the fuel pump itself so I guess it's a '63,,,
  22. Titled as a '64, round headlights, later production number, one of the last 809/810 produced, so it could be either one,,,
  23. I've got a similar issue to deal with this Spring: Mine has already been sealed shut, but the glass is cracked. I have the new glass and depending on condition of the mechanism, may resurrect the functionality of the sunroof... or not. I'm not sure if the mechanism works anymore. If it doesn't, that complicates removing the old glass. So I, too, am interested in how to proceed.
  24. I had the exact same problem on my 82 model. It was the antenna. I removed the nut, cleaned everything really good and then applied some black silicone gasket sealant to the area. After I tighted the nut down, I wiped off the excessive sealant until everything looked good. Be sure to check the antenna drain hose and be sure it's clear if yours has one. The water no longer is a problem in my trunk!
