Studebaker offered this as an accessory. AC-3508 Flarestat Safety Signal Light Kit for $10.75.
-
The ‘70 Avanti I had was equipped with what must have been an aftermarket 4-way flasher unit. Believe me…it was an abomination of wires and connections under the dash. If you’re compelled to have one…I would think Dan Booth at Nostalgic Motors is the guy to talk to.

I remember years ago there was an aftermarket flashing hazard lights kit that could be adapted to Stude Avantis (and probably any other vehicle from that period).. before the government made them mandatory.
-
I was wondering if anyone has added a hazard light option (both turn signals flashing) to Studebaker built Avanti? Early on in my ownership of this car would have been helpful, less needed now. From experience it's a nice safety feature.
-
I'm positive there were at least $3,875.00 spent on it. I'm guessing that was the extent.

Regarding my posts on Door mounted 'Intrusion Bars'- Thanks for the input, everybody. Unless Steel tube/bar is embedded in the doors during layup, I suppose their presence is still indeterminate. I was hoping somebody with knowledge from the factory floor might chime in. I may push this query on the SDC Chat pages to see if a wider audience may shine some light on the subject.

Hm, unfortunate they couldn't make it work. I frequently create stickers on my Silhouette by importing JPEGs into the program. I should think that would work for most image formats so long as the image file is a high enough resolution/dpi. This is just an example: https://www.blacksheep303.com/basic-image-tracing-silhouette-studio/

Not $5660…. but you’re going in the right direction!
-
Thank you all for this info it really helps -I will look at it when I get it back from the mechanic doing the other work . For the 3 M Bond did you use some sort of clamp?
-
Thanks I had it rebonded on a few years ago so will probably have to be done again I can’t imagine the hinge itself awakening cause it’s metal so I’m wondering if it’s the fiberglass around it Thank you very much for responding and for the advice and information
-
We have no reference point to go from on this one, but I'll guess 2) $5660. --Dwight

They do, I bought a kit off Amazon that includes multiple sizes and the tool in a nice case. Since then, I've been using it A Lot !

My 63 has the same issue, but the opposite side. My hood prop is on the left side, and it's sagging on the right rear corner. In my case, I've determined the underhood reinforcement that goes from left to right across the under surface of the hood skin has disbonded from the skin. While the hood is open, I can see movement between the reinforcement and the skin when I gently lift and lower the right rear corner.

Hood fiberglass separating / hood hinge cause??
Dwight FitzSimons replied to A83's topic in 1965-83 Avanti
1963 Avantis had their hood prop on the drivers side; Studebaker moved it to the passenger's side in 1964. I haven't looked at both to determine if there is any difference between the '63 and '64 hood props; maybe just the attachment brackets at the bottom & top would have to be reversed. It might be easier on the hood hinges & fiberglass to have two hood props, one on each side. I assume that, when tilting the hood forward to unlatch the two hood props, that there would be no problem unlatching both so that you could drop the hood. Jon Myer in Ohio has parted out many Avantis and probably has hood props. --Dwight -

Looked them up again…. forward section of roofs ‘Bright White’!
-
Nope… The two Bonneville GT Hawks had the forward section of their roofs painted either silver or white… not really sure which color. This was done supposedly to deflect some heat from interior.

Hood fiberglass separating / hood hinge cause??
Bill Hanlon replied to A83's topic in 1965-83 Avanti
I had the same issue about 3 or 4 years ago. I used 3M panel bond adhesive 08115 product and it is still working. It is available on Amazon problem is that you need to purchase a gun applicator and mixing nozzle. I used the same product to remount my sun roof and has been working for about 6 years. You need to fix the root cause before a second hood support. -
I thought they were black? I saw one back in the day but don’t remember it being silver?
-
I was thinking about that but I don't know if they make them that large. It would have to be between 7/16" and 1/2" to fit the hole.

Hood fiberglass separating / hood hinge cause??
Michael Phillips replied to A83's topic in 1965-83 Avanti
I have noticed over the years of owning & working on Avantis, that quite often a person unfamiliar with the "pawl'" which locks the hood prop in the open position will try to close the hood without first rocking it forward to release the mechanism. The resulting leverage puts a lot of stress on the mount area. Since most cars for the last 30 or so years have hydraulic/ pneumatic cylinders on them the process of lifting forward before closing the hood may be alien to them.
