  2. I think you have to keep the Avanti window regulators and convert the power window section to manual. I'm sure it could be done. Trial and error, if I was doing it I would start by comparing it to a Lark set up. It may only be the quadrant and arm you need to changeover/modify. Pb

    Avanti Hints!

    Rear view
  5. My 63 has power windows at least partially. the motors are there but no wires or switches. Will the manual regulators from another Studebaker work with the Avanti?

    Avanti Dazzle!

Good thought … however… not correct!

    Avanti Hints!

This question is probably a matter of personal opinion… but I’d say #2 is not the ‘Avanti view’!
  9. Agree, a 305 is a boat anchor as far as the power goes.

    Avanti Hints!

Went and hunted that car photo and I think #2, side view has some Avanti in it.
  11. I think #2 Dazzler would be the paints in vibrant colors
  12. Which of the following Studebaker suppliers, in a period ad, described the Avanti as a “STUDEBAKER DAZZLER”? 1) Prestolite….2) R-M Paints….3) Bendix….or…..4) Firestone Tires
  13. A subtle hint of ‘future’ Studebaker Avanti styling can be seen in Raymond Loewy’s 1960 Lancia Loraymo custom automobile….. The Loraymo looks most similar to the Avanti from the …..?…… view. 1) Front…..2) Side……3) Rear…..or…..4) Overhead
  14. When I was a kid I bought a really nice ‘58 Silver Hawk with a 185 CI flathead six… No power steering, however I remember how nice and light it steered with that sweet little six under the hood. So, of course, I ‘improved’ that Hawk by pulling out the six… and replacing it with an improperly installed ‘58 392 CI Chrysler Hemi, which I yanked out of an Imperial my uncle was junking!!
  15. This one is currently on display at The Gilmore Car Museum in Hickory Corners, MI.
  16. My travel rearward and upward is as far as it will go. As shown in these pictures, the upper adjustment screw cannot go back any further. And the other picture shows a hole with a missing bolt. But I don’t know what should go there. At the bottom, there is a bolt. But shouldn’t be a screw like the adjuster at the top? Obviously, someone had this car apart before I bought it.

    Studes & Coffee!

Coffee and cars Chico ,Ca is awesome, always plenty of classics and a mixture of modern hotrods .
  18. I’d definitely say your 305 CI Chevy would be slower than an R3 Avanti or an Avanti equipped with a 400 CI…with either a two barrel carb or four barrel,
  19. My 70 RQA came with Koni shocks all around. You could adjust them from a solid strut to a cushy mattress like sensation. The 70 chassis was the same as the Studebaker Avanti, so you can use anything they installed... Look to Studebaker International
  20. The early Avanti II's got a lot of their parts out of the original Studebaker parts bins. Does my 1969 use 1964 front shock absorbers or was something different used because of the Chevy 350 engine? Can anyone recommend a vendor for the correct shocks?
  21. Now I’m just assuming a R3 from the factory would be the fastest Avanti. Maybe a 300 hp 327 would be right there. What would be the slowest? 400 2 barrel or my 305? Hard to get real comparable horsepower numbers. Mike
  22. The president of the local SDC has a 57 Silver Hawk with a flathead. Surprised to see that when he opened the hood.
  23. Hmmmm!…I don’t know… the only time I’ve heard of a problem like that is at the 1971 Indianapolis 500… when the pace car, a Dodge Challenger, was driven into the pit lane too fast, failed to get stopped, and plowed into the press viewing stand injuring a few people when the stand came crashing down on top of the car.
  24. I don't know about how the Cars & Coffee shows are run where you live, but around the DC area, most shows have no limits of what can be shown. As a result, many (most?) of the cars that show up are either modern expensive toys or modern daily drivers. I have no particular desire to go to a show just to see a 2025 BMW.

    Cool Avanti!

Nope…. Perhaps I should have used the term ‘major difference’?….. but anyway, the answer was the radiator changes.
  26. To show off the Avanti, Studebaker invited members of the motorsports press to the Bonneville Salt Flats to watch the speed runs. The intent was to get articles in major newspapers and popular automotive magazines. A viewing stand was set up for the press to observe the speed runs. The trivia question for the holiday weekend is..... Who was the Avanti driver at Bonneville who had difficulty coming to a stop after finishing a high speed run and almost plowed an Avanti through the Motorsports press viewing stand?
  27. The Avanti radiator is set at an angle where the Hawk and Lark radiators are mounted vertical.
