Here’s some food for thought….. Over the years many Studebaker Avantis have had Chevy engines swapped into them…. Has anyone ever heard of a Studebaker V8 being swapped into an Avanti ll?
-
My car is an early 63 gold with elk interior and I always thought it had salt and pepper carpet but when I was replacing it I found the portion under the seats was solid black.
-
Well I'll be darned! But not surprised. The all-black carpet was available in '63 only with a Fawn & Elk interior AND with either a Gold or Red exterior. So, probably not very many cars.

Will the National meet be well attended this year?
Dwight FitzSimons replied to Nelson's topic in Avanti Pub
Yes, that's curious. Maybe there will be just the two of us there. -
I’m curious. Nobody seems to mention anything about going. I’ll be there for what that’s worth😬
-
Has anybody noticed on some of the original all black carpet cars, that it fades into the speckled or salt and pepper? They were so tight on money that they were dying their inventory instead of just making black from virgin carpet.

I used an old “S” insert as a pattern. An engraver did the lettering on a black background and cut the piece to size. Made a mold with some silicone molding goop, then poured liquid plastic in the mold over the engraved plastic. Lots of trial and error, but finally got one that was decent. Mike

Footer… I don’t know how you did it… but that insert is BEAUTIFUL!!
-
I liked the look of the ornament but instead of the “S” insert I made my own paying homage to the designer of the car. I also added the pirate buckles on the quarter panels but just left the inserts plain black. Mike
-
I put one on my Massey Grey tractor once, as I had a few spares.
-
A sliver one was in the supplier's stock straight away so I went with that. I felt the body colour being Tan/gold looking, Silver would be in keeping with the rest of the trim. These Bonnet 'spears' look so good I really don't know why more of 'em weren't ordered by Avanti II owners.

Which color "S" did you add? Gold was for '63, silver for '64
-
My 74 also has the hood ornament. When I bought it in the early 1990s, I was told it was specifically ordered that way from Avanti Motors. Here's an old picture of it. (Apologize for the dust on the hood!)

Palm Springs Studebaker dealer style license plate frame.
psdenno replied to psdenno's topic in Avanti Parts
SOLD. But, I still have a few more if anyone else is interested in a dealership plate frame for your Avanti or other Studebaker. The license plate frames are as new and were never used. -

I've found the advertisement for the book in issue 211, Summer and Fall 2025. No phone number in it. Are you able to provide me with a number to reach them? Thanks again for your assistance and input. -

Thanks for responding. I'll give them a call. I'm assuming the phone number is in the magazine? -

I bought a copy of the book in December 2023. It was a challenge. I sent the check and never received the book, so I called and spoke to his wife. He had been in the hospital, and she was not able to do anything about the book. She asked for more time and the months went by without any communication from them. I did not want to, but I had to get fairly firm with her to either send the book of give me my money back. She said their son might be able to send the book, and would take it to the post office, but still noting for a number of weeks. About the time I was giving up on the whole project, the book arrived. They did not cash my check for over six months. I do feel sorry for the problems of the elderly and I think they were facing some of them. I would call first and see if books are still available (if not the ad should be removed from the club magazine). -
Good afternoon! Happy to be part of the community! I'm wondering if Stan's book is still available by sending a $65 check to the address that is listed. Anyone have any information on this?

Yes, that should work out well… I have seen black & red speckled industrial carpeting which looked to me to be quite similar to Stude Avanti carpeting… but if that could be made into a suitable Avanti carpeting is a question I can’t answer!

Thanks a bunch MFG. At the chagrin of purists. I even included the Studebaker 'S' emblem in my parts order.. I know it's not correct and goes against my own principles somewhat, but I just plain want it there. 🙃 I'd love to put Studebaker script Badges on it too but I'll resist that notion !
