Sorry psdenno, but the reprint of a Studebaker document which I have indicates a date which isn’t mentioned above.

    Avanti Date!

This is relevant, however, not the reason that the date of 10/1/63 is truly important in the story of the Avanti. Any other thoughts concerning this date?

  5. Hi Brad thanks for your input.... "You could put a nut on it before you installed the end cap", ought to have read "Should Have" 😁- I feel silly missing this. now. Nutsert sounds like a good idea but there's a fairly large hole there already- I will check it just the same, thanks. Coincidentally, just yesterday somebody has put up a post on the Avanti II Owners facebook platform, a commentary of his completed HT installation- and it features a picture of this same area WITHOUT a captive nut there. with another picture showing a nut welded into place later. As Elmer Fudd said: " There's something scwewey going on here!"
  6. No.
  7. 01/05/64
  8. Yesterday
  9. Four White, Red, Silver Metallic & Dark Blue Metallic
  10. Avanti Red paint discontinued and replaced with Avanti Maroon. Metallic Red Vinyl discontinued and replaced with Claret Red Vinyl.
  11. Studebaker stated all Avantis sold after what date should be registered as 1964 models. 9/1/63 10/15/63 10/30/63 1/5/64
  12. You could put a nut on it before you installed the end cap. Or, you can install a nutsert threaded insert after the fact.

    Avanti Cost!

The first four model years of the 1980s carried a base price increase of …….?……. for new Avanti automobiles. 1) $1,970……2) $2,555…..3)$ 4,495…or…4) $5,880

    Avanti Date!

Why is 10/1/63 an important date in the history of the Studebaker Avanti?
  15. The 813 BKV interior became available in May, 1963. Running changes for the 1964 model year started in August, 1963.

    Square Avanti!

Apparently, Studebaker thought styling revisions for the ‘64 model year Avantis would be a good idea, and the ‘square lights’ on Winfield’s model kit, which came out months before R4130 was pulled from the production line to be modified, appealed to them. That’s what MAY have happened!
  17. So Studebaker was "goaded" into square headlight trim or were they doing that independently?
  18. Am not in North Jersey, but a couple of hours south -- Turmont, Maryland. I have only recently decided to sell my 74 Avanti II, all original except for a repaint in the 1990s. Am still writing up a description and pondering asking price, but thought I would respond to your post.
  19. 'Hogtroughs' in stainless steel from Classic Enterprises have been installed in my Avanti II. The final riveting of the End Caps being completed only recently; this final job being completed by a friend, not me. As we are now looking at re-placing the Body back on the rejuvenated Frame I wanted to check the breed of the bolts that will secure the Frame to the Hogtroughs.... These are not UNF like the originals, but are in fact all 3/8" UNC. No Problem there, I just wanted to confirm. On checking from the front to the rear I come to the last hole- the one that rests on the little 'Tag' on the side of the Rear Spring mounting fixture and found NO CAPTIVE NUT in the Hogtrough. Thinking I might have a dud box I rolled over to the left side of the Avanti to check the same and once again- no captive nut welded in there. I checked my reference photos from waaay back when I shipped them here and sure 'nuff.... no nut. The solution is to drill rivets, remove the endcaps weld in a 3/8'UNC nut, of course, but I'd really like to figure out whether I've boobed or has somebody at the factory. Anybody got feedback on these issue 😕? See photos with red circles...

    Avanti Engine!

Well Gunslinger, you’re ’right on the money’ when you mentioned the rather elaborate dual snorkel L69 air cleaner assy, with its twin intake hoses leading down over the front tires to left & right grills installed in the valance panel…. a dead give away at a glance! Well done!
  21. Is this car still available?
  22. Been looking at them. A bit confusing but thx for the tip!
  23. While this may not pertain to an Avanti…the LG4 had a single snorkel air cleaner while the L69 had a dual snorkel. The LG4 also had a 2” exhaust manifold outlet while the L69 had 2 1/4” manifold outlets. There were internal differences such as the cam and a different advance curve but you can’t see that. Getting the carburetor numbers and looking them up should help as well.

    Square Avanti!

Answer…. ‘Probably’ #3…. Mr. Gene Winfield!
  26. What is a quick visual way to determine if a stock 1984 Avanti is equipped with either a LG4 305 engine or the more powerful L69 305 engine? (without checking engine code numbers)
