That is accurate per The New York Times.

I posted the following comment on the Announcements section and it was removed with no explanation. psdenno also posted a comment and it was removed. Are we no longer allowed to post our opinions? It is absolutely not necessary to have two separate categories for 1963-1964 Avanti R1 and 1963-1964 Avanti R2-R5. It just creates confusion. While the R4 was a factory option no R4 Avantis were factory built and the R5 was not a factory option. The original 1963-1964 Avanti category worked well. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"

I heard that contract wasn’t put out for bid…. However, I’ve no idea if that info is accurate.

Are they a pool company or somebody’s brother in law?

The same J. J. Cafaro............ different subsidiary...

Not getting into politics here!! However, I just heard that the ‘John Cafaro Company’ was hired last month to clean up the Reflecting Pool in front of the Washington Monument….(This job has turned into a minor disaster!) Is this the same Cafaro Company that produced some of the ‘89-‘91 AVANTI automobiles?? 🤔

Not sure about that!…..I think the ‘original’ wheel cover blank would be stamped out first, then the Avanti ‘touches’ would be added to it…..Possibly added in one additional stamping.

Thanks, Bob. I think it is priced to sell and sell with a clear conscience.. Maybe next time😀?

Yes, the frame and troughs being perfect should be worth thousands, much less the time and headache to get that stuff repaired correctly.
-
Interesting.. I would love to see pix's of that.

False…. A Checker with a souped up Chevrolet engine under its hood does sound like the ultimate ‘sleeper’ though!!

If you tighten the screw with the wave washer under it, (between the body bracket and the swing out latch), it tends to tighten up the hinge assy.

There is a clay model of the Avanti done during development with fender flares.

Other than Checker's insult to the Avanti I have never heard any of this. Rather than a drag race perhaps a more appropriate answer to the insult would be a challenge to the opinions of a panel of artists. Who do you think would win that? Or, perhaps a suggestion that the president of Checker should have his head examined. Having two artists in the family I am aware of the training and natural skill required to be a successful artist. What was Checker's president's artistic portfolio? --Dwight

Hi--I recently purchased a 1963 R1, and I'm slowly taking care of a number of fairly minor issues that I've discovered. My latest project is tightening the rear quarter windows. I can pop them open with their hinged latches, but above like 35 mph the wind pressure blows them closed again. Years ago I had a similar problem with a Studebaker Hawk, and I was never able to fix it. I tried silicon seal on the pivot point, bending the latch a bit with a pair of pliers, etc. I suspect this is a common problem, but I can't find any posts on this forum about how to correct it. I would appreciate any advice. Thanks! Steve

But, the wheel cover manufacturer wasn't re-stamping existing wheel covers. I figure that the late-53 -- 55 wheel cover dies were machined with the changes for the Avanti, then those dies were used in one "stamping" or strike to produce Avanti wheel covers. There is nothing unusually deep or complex about the Avanti wheel covers, therefore only one strike to produce a wheel cover. (I assume another strike to add the ring around the periphery.) So, the answer to the question as stated is zero (operations to convert). --Dwight

True or false- In 1967, still stinging from Checker Cab’s insult to the Avanti, Leo Newman challenged them to a drag race with a 300hp 4spd Avanti. When Checker showed up with highly modified cab, Newman pulled the plug on the race and the rift was never healed.

AIR DAM/CHIN SCOOP/FRONT SPOILER
wildfelr replied to wildfelr's topic in Avanti Parts For Sale or Wanted
AOAI Forum Members 30 Gender:Male Location:Doylestown Pa. My Avanti:RQA0348 Posted August 26, 2022 I would like to solve the mystery involving this part. My name is Mike Phillips, and I am the creator of the spoiler / air dam in these pictures. In the 80's I owned an auto body shop and was a member of AOA, during that time I owned a '63 R1 and a '70 Avanti II. I designed and executed both the positive (plug) and negative mold to produce these parts which I still have. I would be glad to answer any further questions anyone may have. -

It’s just tough to see those blisters after all the work you did…. But your not alone with this one my friend!

Thanks a lot! It is moister according to this service letter. Well, as the polyester will not rust, I might leave it like this. If I want to redo it, I should do it in the summer or use a decent heater. Lessons learned.
