  1. I also have never seen a 'Blake' without trunk carpeting matching the interior carpeting.....However, on the '83 (for example) production order sheet, matching trunk carpeting was an option which had to be checked off if desired!

    Answer to this question....FALSE!

Wonder if any 1967 Avantis were built without a heater and defroster?

Good question. I find it hard to believe it was ever considered an option!..... A heater/defroster was standard equipment on Studebaker Avantis, I believe.

I will go out on a limb and say the originals did have access and the repos don't.

Not a bad summation!...But the truth is ALL the R3 air boxes had the idle mixture screws access plate!.....answer..FALSE!

False. According to my 1977 Avanti II price list effective April 15, 1977 -- heater and defroster was part of the standard equipment.

(I did notice that the boat trailer hitch, mentioned in a Trivia question a few days ago, was chrome plated and priced at $50. :))

By 4/15/77 company policy had changed, but on earlier '67 Avanti ll's the heater/defroster was a $100 option!

So, the answer to this question would be TRUE!

Oh wow, I have never even seen an Avanti fuel sender. But, since my (sometimes poor :)) memory says that an Avanti gas tank is shaped most like the C-cab and T-cab truck tanks (ie, kinda square in cross-section), I'll pick what's behind door number 1).

Yep, that makes sense, and you are CORRECT!

    "what it could do"

Just as an aside, technically the SAE didn't "say" this -- Studebaker engineers Hardig and deBlumenthal said this in the paper "The Avanti by Studebaker" which was published by the SAE. But this is not picking at you Ed, just making things clear! :)

    RIGHT!....and thanks for the clarification.

Because there is no fuel there -- in other words, all that will be pushed out from around the choke butterfly shaft by the positive pressure of the blower will be air. It's the places where fuel would be pushed out that they needed to worry about.

    Yep!....THAT'S the reason!

The original question does not specify dealer or private owner, so the answer is false, a complete body could be purchased.

As I stated in my previous post how could Studebaker sell you a body in 1965 when they sold everything to Avanti Motors in 1964?

    Points well taken Bob...Thanks!

  9. Concerning the 1963 Studebaker Avanti, the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) said the following about this 'new' car.........(FILL IN THE FOUR BLANKS!)...............................

"For once, it is the pleasant position of the design & engineering staffs to create a vehicle for a specific purpose, with emphasis on ----  --  -----  --,  rather than how many units could be sold."
