Well, I was going to say Budd because I read the question too fast..........then noticed this was one of the last "EX" reserialed cars. After looking at the production order for this car, I'm not sure about the frame. So, I will say it was built up in the Studebaker Engineering Department.

Paul feels the frame for this Avanti was put together in Stude's engineering dept......Any other thought on this question?

  2. Of the following list, which would YOU consider to be (financially) the most valuable of these historic Studebaker Avantis?.....(There are other possible candidates, but for now let's just consider the following twenty cars!....................................................................................

The 'Bill Burke' Bonneville Avanti #90

The Hot Rod Magazine R3 Avanti 63R-1025

    The 'Due Cento' Avanti

Joe Granatelli's 429 Cad powered Avanti

    Bonneville Avanti #8

    The 'Ian Fleming' Avanti

    Avanti 63R1001 (first production)

    The 'Egbert Avanti' R4130

Any one of the nine 'production' R3 Avantis

    Bonneville Avanti #9

The 'Roger Ward' Indy 500 Avanti

    The 'Sears-Allstate Tire' Avanti

And, to be fair, let's assume all the above Avantis are in EXACTLY the same (#1) condition!.....................................OPINIONS??????

Unique is an absolute term, not one of degree.  With that said, I will answer with R 5643 as the last Studebaker built Avanti and an R3 at that (I know that 5642 is also an R3.).

Gary thinks R5643 is 'more unique' than R5642!....Does anyone else have a different opinion?

You do know that that line is not part of the "...engine oiling system..."  It could be removed and the port blocked and the oiling system will work just fine.  It only feeds the gauge that monitors oil pressure, it does not contribute to the oiling of the engine.  Of course, if it breaks you lose oiling of the engine due to the loss of oil.  In fewer words, your query is flawed.

Gary, if that flex line ever failed without the driver realizing it had failed,...he'd realize very quickly the oil flex line is VERY MUCH INDEED a part of the 'engine oiling system,!!

Could one be the Fuel filter on top of the motor?

    Updated water pump

The fuel filter is definitely one!...but I must admit that I never realized a change was made to the water pump!

can anyone think of the others?

I'll say false as the only change to the Hurst unit would be the shifter mod IIRC.

Actually, the answer here is TRUE!...In a 1967 letter from Hurst Corp, they politely indicated they felt there was not enough 'market' out there to make a shifter for the Avanti.

Fortunately, they soon changed there minds!

  7. While much has been written about the #9 Bonneville Avanti, relatively little has been written on this #8 car.

I'd REALLY like to see an 'in depth' article, (with lots of pics), done on this #8 Bonneville Avanti, hopefully in the near future!

The rubber hose that feeds the oil to the oil pressure gauge?

Or, the oil filter if someone still has the factory original installed (I hope not........!):)

Or the bypass and check valves in the aluminum oil filter adapter?

I'd say you got it right with your answer #1, that pesky (and SCARY) rubber flex hose!

The joints where large fiberglass pieces were joined?

Not exactly, as one 'views' the Avanti body, there's sometimes one particular area that looks 'not quite right'....This is usually 'worked out' of Avantis that have received a restoration.
