Maybe where you’re from!!……..Do you live near regalbob?
-
I don’t know what brand of salt and pepper you use on your food Bob, but I certainly hope that your ‘salt’ is not red, or orange, or turquoise!!!!!!! However, if you post a Studebaker document that specifically states that ALL tu-tone Avanti carpeting will be considered or referred to as ‘salt & pepper’, I will defer!
-
Regnalbob… Concerning the above list, where it refers to “Fawn & black” on fifth line down, it’s referring to salt & pepper Stude Avanti carpeting…. Unless that list is incorrect, salt & pepper carpeting was replaced with all black carpeting at Avanti serial.# R-4709…. Are you saying R-4709 did not have a two tone interior? Also, are you telling us a ‘63 Stude Avanti with Orange & Fawn interior would have salt & pepper carpeting? I feel that you think that all Stude Avantis with ‘two-tone’ carpeting have salt & pepper carpeting… but salt & pepper only refers to what I will call the light tan and black speckled carpeting. Take a better look at above list… it’s self explanatory!

Did you try Dave Thibeault? -
Brad, if you want to call the WCFB a Will Carter Four Barrel…. then I too will call it a Will Carter Four Barrel…. No problem!

Thank you… I did not realize they were separate sights… My apologies to Bob Johnstone. -

Once again….clerical mistakes sometimes happen……. Some kind of deliberate misrepresentation?… I doubt that very much. -

My two cents… The Avanti Registry is a great source for finding information concerning surviving Studebaker & later Avantis, and ‘hats off’ to Mr. Johnstone for putting all this info together, however, as with any other source, there can be an occasional error. There was serial / I D # confusion concerning my own 1985 Avanti in the Avanti Registry (AAV-RQB prefix)…Certainly no big deal, but still……… -
Personally, I do not agree… as the above information is from a knowledgeable person who is basing his opinion on heresay. I always thought that the ‘AFB’ designation on Carter AFB carburetors stood for ‘Aluminum Four Barrel’…. regalbob will no doubt come back with info that indicates that ‘AFB’ stands for ‘Anderson Four Barrel’!!!!!!!! No, ‘WCFB’ stands for ‘White Cast Four Barrel. (my opinion) Also, I highly doubt that a Carter WCFB carburetor, although heavy, weighs “over seventeen pounds”!

‘White Cast’ refers to material carb is made of.

Beautiful Avanti!

That’s a remarkable job… Kudos to you Nelson! Also, the rest of the interior looks real nice… I have a hunch it’s an early serial number car, having what appears to be an Avanti Gold exterior with the fawn/orange interior? -
By the way Brad…. On a different note…. The Carter carb letters WCFB Stand for ‘White Cast Four Barrel’!
-
That’s one gorgeous Avanti!… Love the wheels & tires! My own ‘83 had factory installed Daytons at the ‘83 new car auto show, but it’s first owner ordered them off the car… too much trouble to keep clean I guess.

Concerning the major differences in Studebaker Avanti R1 and R2 distributor advance curves, and also basic timing adjustments … Why did Studebaker engineers feel it necessary to change these specifications between their supercharged and their unsupercharged engines?
-
A friend owns a real nice white ‘64 Stude Avanti, that features a full claret interior, black carpeting, and the ‘woodgrain’ steering wheel & dash pieces…… Absolutely beautiful!
-
I believe Nelson was referring to changes phased in on the Avanti production line?
-
OK…. It was a light duty unit based on the same model ‘8’ BW. with first gear start.

Wonderful Leo!
-
Hi Leo… can’t answer your question, however if things don’t work out with the TT differential, I have an ‘open’ differential case in good shape for a ‘44’….. Frankly, if you don’t race your Avanti or drive it in slippery, adverse conditions, an open differential case is sometimes easier to live with… Just my opinion!

Hmmm!… Did you use a driveshaft from a ‘63 or ‘64 Lark ‘6’ two speed automatic? That could account for the 1” longer shaft.. since a pre ‘63 cast iron Flightomatic ‘6’ auto trans would use the same length shaft as any V8 built on the 109–109 1/2 wheelbase….including Avanti…. Ed PS… Steve’s idea of measuring things up is a very good one though!

R4892 was first Avanti built with all the original ‘64 factory updates. (minor additional changes came even later) That serial number may be your answer.
