Might be easier to just finish the job with switches and wiring. Meyer's probably has the parts. you can order a wiring schematic.

Got me a nice set (4) gas-charged correct shocks on eBay for a lot less than the Stude vendors. Just do a little shopping. They are available almost everywhere.

Electric fuel pumps should always be mounted in the rear of the vehicle as close to the fuel tank outlet as possible and lower is best. Electric pumps PUSH better than pull whereas mechanical pumps PULL better than push, which is why they're mounted up front by the carb. Former owner was probably trying to eliminate vapor lock. Also, electric pumps should have a pre filter, preferably one that can be seen thru and taken apart for cleaning. I use both pumps, the electric primarily for priming the carb. and no problems!

Looks like a Mallory fuel pump.

This week my son and I went to the barn to start our 63/64 Avanti R1. My son , who has been overseas for a dozen years,, is my partner on this more or less time capsule. It has original paint, carpet, and upholstery , as well as mechanics. All in very fine shape. There was some worry that starting up might be hard, but after connecting the 3EE battery ,after two key turns the Avanti produced a start and even idle. I guess I just want to express my relief that all is ok. Daryl

Consider it a small footnote to Avanti history. Sorry that most of the folks who made that history are no longer around to share their stories.

Avanti side glass can be a challenge… Worse yet if the doors themselves are slightly misaligned, worn hinges, etc.
-
And just think…At that time Studebaker was pushing their ‘all new, sure-fire’ DISC BRAKES!!!!!
-
I don't remember him mentioning which Avanti he was driving. But he did say that as he was trying to bring it to a stop he was worrying about how he was going to explain plowing through the bleacher full of reporters from all the top auto magazines..

I have considered that, but right now the door closes perfectly and getting that to happen is a feat all in it's own. This is the second Avanti I have owned where someone before me just had to dismantle it and loose some of the most important pieces! I have restored a 54 coupe and 2 GT Hawks. Those cars were a piece of cake to align the windows and doors. But the Avanti is a very different animal I have come to find out!
-
Can you adjust the door towards the back using the door hinge adjustment bolts in the door? I can't tell if there is enough of a gap between the door and rear quarter panel where you can improve the window alignment? It's really hard to get a balance with the window/door adjustment on some cars.

Wow!… GREAT STORY…. He was probably driving the Due Cento… I think that was the only car there with a chute.

Not Paula Murphy but she was present at the dinner gathering along with a small group of Avanti icons and enthusiasts when the story was told. I'm surprised no one mentioned the Granatellis. After dinner, Vince Granatelli told how at the end of a speed run he was trying to slow the Avanti as it headed straight toward the Press bleachers at high speed. The Avanti wasn't slowing down and steering on the salt was less than ideal. He was afraid he would wipe out the entire Motoring Press in the stands. He popped the parachute and stood on the brakes and finally managed to stop the Avanti just a few feet from the Press bleachers. Members of the Press thought it was all part of the show and stood up and cheered.

I sincerely appreciate the tips and help. The back window channel is already as far back as it will go. And the bottom back edge of the glass frame is touching the fiberglass at the top back of the door opening above the lock. I think the body was just a bad mold or something. It is beyond my skill level to correct at this point.

Paula Murphy ? (It must sound like I’m picking on women here!)

The vent assembly needs to go back at the top which will correct the same area at the back. Then the back window channel needs adjusting to tilt the window out at the top. For the adjusters, check with Meyers Studebaker or Nostalgic. As a last resort, you can make some as follows: bolt, washer, (door skin), washer and locking nut.
-
This is the best fit I can get with the vent window adjusted as far back as it will go. It looks like I need to acquire the adjusting bolts that are missing (3 to be exact, one for the lower passenger side and both for the drivers). Part number 1350482. If anyone has any, I would love to buy them. None of the vendors list them in their catalogs.

Correct! You know your fluids.

This interests me…. I’d like to hear more about this item!
