  2. About 30 years ago, my local garage/dealer sent the power steering cylinder to a local shop to have the shaft re-chromed. It started to leak again after the last 10 years of non-use and I ordered a rebuild kit....did the replacement myself and no more leaks. If the shaft of the cylinder shows any signs of pitting, you will need to replace the cylinder or get the shaft re-chromed..otherwise the rebuild kit should stop any leaks there.
  3. I heard the same thing (from Dan Booth) but since the outer edges of the bushings have a lip that the support brackets sit inside, I am not worried about the bushings walking out.
  4. Thanks, have some coming from a different source. Will let everyone know if they work out.
  5. Dwight, thank you very much for responding and the information, I really appreciate it.
  6. I have mine from the 80’s, still in its plastic wrap, decades before I got my car. Mike
  7. A guy told me he put a screw in that hole to keep the bushing from “walking” out. Don’t know if that is a thing, mine haven’t moved. Mike

  9. I am about to reassemble the front sway bar after having the coil springs replaced. All the supports for the bushings have a 1/4" in hole (un-threaded). Would it be wise to add zerk grease fittings to these holes? My alternative is to occasionally spray some lithium grease around the sides of the bushings. (the bushings are rubber) If I do put grease fittings on...should I drill a hole through the rubber down to the bar or just grease around the inside of the supports?

  16. For NewEnglanders…. Annual Studebaker/Avanti/Packard ‘Octoberfest’ at Larz Anderson Park in Brookline, Massachusetts is TOMORROW! …10/19/25….Always a great turnout… Weather predicted excellent!! ( Brookline Museum of Transportation)
  17. Yeah, Dwight... Thats good for us ''owners''. Those on here or in search of a deal are the ones who don't make out well. When I see a '73' Model bringing $152k+, it was all due to the rest-mod work done on the car since a 'stock'' version wouldn't bring but about $20-25k. This resto-mod was one of the best examples I've ever seen, especially in the Avanti world. If You look at the graph of sales on the BAT Site it's the top number by far ever sold. Notice they even installed the '63-64 round headlights. Nice touch.
  18. Yes, if you're selling. --Dwight
  19. I know, but the price and product are completely out of balance for me. I don't necessarily need new ones either; good used ones are nicer.
  20. Oct 18th and sold for $152,500k. Amazing...Not only does this shift thinking on our Avanti's it sets a new pricing bar to reach. I'm not saying any untouched and stock Avanti will bring anywhere near this price, buit to me it shifts a good clean example to the upside ... I have a totally original example of a '63' R2 in very good condition with 89,000 miles on Her. It would now (to me) bring a sables price of around $45.000. In fact on this site, just below this listing is a R2 selling for in the $70.000's And I'm starting to see some going for the $50,000's price range. It's a GREAT TIME for Us Avanti Owners.
  21. It sold for $152,500.
  22. You might try Myer's Studebaker in Ohio. Jon & MIke Myer have parted out many Avantis. --Dwight
  23. I assume that your Avanti II has the same Bendix power steering system as the original Studebaker Avanti. If otherwise, let me know. The OEM for that P.S. system is Bendix Corp, then (maybe now also) in South Bend, IN. Ford also used the Bendix system, altho the parts don't necessarily interchange. AFAIK, the only rebuilder of these systems is the Lares Corp in MN. I have to get two of these rebuilt myself. For my '63 Avanti their webpage is: https://www.larescorp.com/select/Studebaker/Avanti/1963/4.7L 289CID V8/ I believe that they need your core to rebuild. --Dwight
  24. I have the rubber parts but not the stainless metal parts holding it to the car. Doen anyone has some to spare? I live in the Netherlands and would like to make my '69 like new again! Thanks!
  25. Likely worth every penny...
  26. Good day all. Was wondering if anyone knows who is the OEM for the Power steering Cylinder? I ordered a rebuild kit and also saw that i can get a rebuilt one but was wondering who made it. Was it a Studebaker Part only or does it cross-over to a Chevrolet part? Thanks.
  27. Posted on SDC site as well. I am hanging the doors back on R5408. Can/should the lock washers be reused? If not, what is good substitute? The teeth seem to be OK and the dome appears intact.
  28. Sorta shows us where the pricing can go on our vehicles. Last I looked it's sitting at $99,000.
