You can swap out the 305 for a 350 without any problem. If you want to keep the 83 carb/distributor and computer system, then that will work also, with the exception of having to rejet the carb for the 350. The 350 also would need 350 exhaust manifolds since the ports and exit port are larger. You would need to have a muffler shop replace the flange that connects the exhaust pipe to each manifold with larger ones to match the 350 exhaust manifold. The good thing is you'll have a lot more power once you are done, and the value of the car will go up as well.

I was thinking that there was something similar to a L bracket that the screw went into and you could use that to attach the rivet to. Maybe we need to see a photo of the problem area?

This last weekend I took RQB3616 out on the road to my Iron Chariots Car Show after being in storage for several months while I built a garage to house her and provide a weather proof location to be able to work on her year round. Everything when well until a knock from deep within the engine appeared.... I was able to limp home via the back roads while purposely not getting much above 35/40mph. I need to empty the oil for sure as the dipstick shows a overfull oil pan (no water beads or fuel smell), pop the valve covers to see what I find, check compression, etc.. My true Gear Head friends have forewarned me that I will need a new engine. While I haven't reworked an engine in MANY years, I am not afraid to take it on but my gut also tells me that it may be a lost cause.... RQB3616 has a 305. The question is what do I need to consider in swapping out the original 305 for a 350? Will the 1983 engine electronics work on the new motor 305 or 350? Are the motor mounts the same? Etc.... Seeking any insight.

I can't get the sheets to load. If you send me a personal message with your email address I'll send them that way.

Have a set of wire wheel covers 15" these were in the trunk of an Avanti I recently purchased. They are in pretty decent shape, 2 have Avanti center logo 2 are missing logo, these are pretty heavy to ship, but I can deliver to the Avanti/ SDC meet in Pa. in September. Asking $250. Please PM any questions.

It was available on one of the Avanti websites but I believe it's no longer active. If I still have a copy I'll post it...might take some time looking.

My '66 has the 327/300 motor. The number on the intake manifold immediately behind the carburetor is 3872783; immediately under that is GM2. The number immediately in front of the distributor is J185. The carburetor is a Holley 4160. I don't believe the 327 was still manufactured in '78. GM was making the 350 by this time; perhaps Avanti Motors bought a bunch some years earlier and was still using them in '78 -- I don't know. The 327/300 had 2 'humps' on the front of the cylinder heads, one on each side; they were called 'Camel Hump' heads. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Before I break anything, on my 89 coupe, how to remove the carpeted A/C box on pass side. I recently had car reupholstered/ recarpeted and potential screw locations are not visible. Where located and how many?

That’s very interesting!

What are the original carburetors and intake manifolds used on RQA 327 300hp engines? Height and ORIGINAL numbers are Important. Were Carters original equipment? How about a low profile intake manifold? I have seen Early RQA's with a Studebaker Avanti style air cleaner but don't know what carb its on (4 7/32 neck) ? Thanks RQA 217

That's okay I got a fan switch that works great from O'Reilly and it seems as though The air conditioner now works great so maybe it was just the fan switch that was a problem. But I did receive a link previously in this discussion of the correct switch to get for the temperature gauge if I need it

Where would the pop rivet end connect into?
-
Sorry abt that.. I guess that's why they don't show the front..
-
I think there is enough room for you to drill a new hole and use a pop rivet to fix it, or maybe make a small L bracket to connect the 2 pieces.

Oreilly Auto Parts sells the 3 speed Murray switch which works like a champ.

I don't know how much these will help...they're from some time ago and vendors could have changed or dropped their parts numbers...but it's what I have.

Does anyone know as to whether a cross reference chart has ever been created, specifically one that will give the aftermarket parts numbers for Avanti parts that will fit our cars? I have a '72, and am looking for brake shoes/pads. A cross reference chart would really be handy to have on hand.
