Hi all, New engine is on the stand being prepped for a weekend install! I purchased a jigsaw puzzle with boxes of parts, a rebuilt engine on a skid, and a trunk full of additional parts. Is there anybody in the greater Chicago metropolitan area who could make their car available for a look under the hood and perhaps some photographs? Mine is a beautiful car, but some questions endure about how things are configured. There is a relative abundance of photographs and publications, plus experience and common sense, but sometimes it is helpful to just see the vehicle. Avantis do not appear at our nearby car shows. I'm looking to put a 4 speed into a 63 Avanti. I have everything that I need but I really want a stock shifter, not a Hurst. I know, I know the stock shifter wasn't great, but I would really like to get my hands on a stock shifter. Does anyone know where I could find one or have one that they took out and didn't throw away? Thanks!

Your pitman arm is not clocked right on the steering box or someone really screwed up adjusting tie rods with the steering wheel not on center.

why does my 64 avanti r1 with power steering steer tighter to the right than to the left. Not referring to difficultly in turning but in shorter turning arc or radiius.

Jim, Could you give me the height measurement of the shoulder strap location at all ? I’m looking to add a 3 point seatbelt to my 64. thanks Peter

The only ways that I know how to combat knock other than using higher octane fuel is to use water-methanol injection or an intercooler. This would reduce intake air temps and bring combustion temperatures down. Someone mentioned composite gaskets. They are not generally recommended for vehicles with forced induction.

Brad - where can the correct gasket for the cover bolts be found?

The accessory AC-3508 says it's for all 1964 passenger cars except Avanti.

I'm new to the group and I am hoping that maybe someone has a stock 4 speed shifter that they are not using. I know that a lot of people are using the Hurst Competition Plus shifter, but I would like a factory shifter. Much appreciated!

Yes. I used thin plywood and pressure clamps. Picture is the roof but used same process.

Studebaker offered this as an accessory. AC-3508 Flarestat Safety Signal Light Kit for $10.75.

The ‘70 Avanti I had was equipped with what must have been an aftermarket 4-way flasher unit. Believe me…it was an abomination of wires and connections under the dash. If you’re compelled to have one…I would think Dan Booth at Nostalgic Motors is the guy to talk to.

I remember years ago there was an aftermarket flashing hazard lights kit that could be adapted to Stude Avantis (and probably any other vehicle from that period).. before the government made them mandatory.

I was wondering if anyone has added a hazard light option (both turn signals flashing) to Studebaker built Avanti? Early on in my ownership of this car would have been helpful, less needed now. From experience it's a nice safety feature.

I'm positive there were at least $3,875.00 spent on it. I'm guessing that was the extent.
