mfg Posted Tuesday at 01:41 PM Report Posted Tuesday at 01:41 PM In 1972, 1963 Stude Avanti # 63R1319 (R2) was advertised for sale… That Avanti had an unusual feature… What was that ? 1) One high backed front bucket Seat 2) Dropped front suspension spindles 3) A three speed o/d transmission or….4) Factory delete chrome ornaments on hood & earmuffs

mfg Posted Thursday at 01:30 PM Author Report Posted Thursday at 01:30 PM Any other thoughts on this oddball?
Gunslinger Posted Thursday at 11:08 PM Report Posted Thursday at 11:08 PM I’ll say #1…I remember Studebaker made an Avanti for a car show event that had one vinyl covered front seat and one leather covered…don’t remember whether it was a high back but possibly could be this car.

I remember hearing about that Avanti, however, that car is not the subject of this trivia question… so #1 isn’t the answer here.
AG-R3 Posted yesterday at 02:16 PM Report Posted yesterday at 02:16 PM Don't tell me that R1319 had a vinyl roof.....
Dwight FitzSimons Posted yesterday at 05:29 PM Report Posted yesterday at 05:29 PM 2) Dropped front suspension spindles IIRC dropped spindles were used at Bonneville

SO!…… The odd feature on this Avanti was … a THREE SPEED WITH OVERDRIVE TRANSMISSION !! I’d certainly guess installed after this Avanti R2 was built…. But that’s how 63R1319 was advertised for sale!

Where did you get the info on this car. I have the 2011 sales data from the barn where it was found, but nothing in the description like that.../

mfg Posted 20 hours ago Author Report Posted 20 hours ago Another oddity concerning 63R1319… In the 2019 AOAI Roster, two owners are listed for this Avanti… In two different States…. Indiana & Alabama!!!!!
Footer Posted 5 hours ago Report Posted 5 hours ago Any idea on how many came from the factory with a manual 3 speed? Don’t get the logic. Seems like the correct number should be zero! Mike

Seems like the correct number should be zero! Mike I don't remember the exact number, but it was something like 40. I, personally, have seen one (in 1965). The trans. was the T-86, which is not a heavy-duty trans. I assume it was made the base transmission to keep the base price of the Avanti down. I agree it was not a very good idea.
