There can be as many as ......?...... factory fuel filters on an original, R1 or R2 equipped Studebaker Avanti.

1) one....2) two......3) three....or.....4) four

I think one at the tank, one up near the motor and one inside the carb, so 3.

Up to 4 if you count the screen inside the fuel pump,
(not all pumps have them) the main inline filter after the pump before the carburetor, and the two small screens in the inlet needle valve seats.

Did the early cars have a glass bowl with a return like Hawks and Larks? If so id guess two but it’s a shaky guess.

I'd go with two....the main inline and the screen just inside carb inlet).....I think the two filters Brad refers to (pressed into the needle valve seats) were not originally installed at factory.
