Electronic distributor for Studebaker but not Avanti

I see that several vendors sell a new electronic distributor for Studebaker V8's.  They say for any V8 except Avanti.  I'm wondering why they would not work on an Avanti?  Is it just compatibility with the wiring that a little custom wiring would solve?  Or is it actually a difference in the motor on the Avanti?  I sure would like to know if anyone has any insight.  Thanks

The biggest difference is the advance curve. If that is adjustable,  it should work just fine. Many owners replace the prestolite dist with delco from non Avanti Stude.

I have not seen the distributors you reference, but my "guess" is that perhaps they will not fit under the stainless steel ignition shielding. Just a  guess!

I was also thinking that they will not physically fit.

The actual fit makes more sense to me.  I did not think of it as my car does not have the steel shielding installed.  Thanks for the information.

Rather than get something of unknown source or quality, Avanti vendor and advertiser in Avanti Magazine and Turning Wheels Dave Thiebeault sells aluminum bodied electronic ignition distributors for the Avanti.

Buying one of these compared to buying something from a vendor was not the question.  I could not think of a reason why it would not fit.  The shield seems to be the best guess.  I actually have bought from Dave Thiebeault before if that matters.
