mfg
Concerning the first fifteen 'production' Studebaker Avantis, 63R-1003 somewhat stands out from the others for a particular reason....What is that reason?
Gunslinger
Would that be the one with the metric speedometer?
mfg
Would that be the one with the metric speedometer? No, that would be 63R-1015.
bigdaddy
Was that was the Roger Ward Indy car? (edit: Yeah I know it's wrong! That's what I get for relying on my failing memory.) Edited September 20, 2014 by bigdaddy
brad
Was it Ian Flemmings car?
lschuc
No.. Flemming's Avanti was black and a later production 1963 model. The first 7 cars were all white with orange interiors.
1963r2
The rear window fit?
warren55
It was sold in late 63 as a 64 model.
mfg
All good thoughts...but what singled this car out to me was the amount of EXPOSURE it received! Studebaker shipped R1003 'across the pond' to Geneva, Switzerland for a major european new car auto show...then back to the U.S. to be displayed at the 1962 Indianapolis 500.... it was also the featured car in several Studebaker ad campaigns....Quite a 'star'!.(When R1003 was finally sold it was titled as a 1964...but that mistake was later corrected) !
