mfg Posted September 12, 2020 Report Posted September 12, 2020 One of the last variations of the ball driven Paxton Supercharger was called the 'GSS' series.....What did the letters 'GSS' stand for?

r1lark Posted September 13, 2020 Report Posted September 13, 2020 (edited) Since it was applied to a Dodge Demon sold by Chicago's Grand Spaulding Dodge (the famous MoPar high performance dealership), GSS meant either 'Grand Spaulding Special' or 'Grand Spaulding Supercharged'. Here is an article on the car (sorry for the 'scan' written over it): Edited September 13, 2020 by r1lark

Anyone else want to take a shot at this one?

brad Posted September 18, 2020 Report Posted September 18, 2020 There was also a gear drive unit also called the GSS, and they made about 50 or so. They were inside the same case, and looked identical. It used planetary gears, and they couldn't make them reliable, and it was the last iteration of the original case. They then went to the now familiar Novi gear drive units, that were basically engineered by Vortec. Paxton bought Vortec.

It's too bad the planetary gear setup in the original case did not work out....would sure have been a nice update to replace the very sensitive ball drive element we deal with.
