  1. RQB3263/81/305......I dont understand the fascination with the 200r4.....please explain to me the advantage over  the 700.....if it is availability and the overdrive then I think you will be happier with the 700...... ON ANOTHER NOTE.....does anyone know of a disc brake conversion for the original 81 rear end ?I dont want to change out the whole thing and loose my 2.72 rear gear.... Bill on a cold, wet, nasty morning in Florida ....thanks

  2. RQB3263/81/305    3263 HAS A 2.72  original rear gear and makes for a wonderful cruiser with the 700 I installed  5 yr ago... If you have this combination dont change a thing just cruise and enjoy.... at 70MPH im tacking 1750 perfect...a 305 will last forever at that rate...... I also installed a Crane torque cam  (RV) etc as to 305 can always use a little help down at the low end.... If you can install the trans you can fab the trans mount yourself and not buy anything.....as far as the quadrant is concerned you  dont need to make any changes there either...yes the lever wont align up perfectly but you can count to three (clicks) youve saved another 100 bucks and it will work just fine.......  I wrote on this some time ago so check out my posts and also are pics of my fabed trans mount...   BILL in Fl ....386-466-6434 ......happy cruising

  3. RQB3263/81/305  Sounds like a good way to mess up a perfectly fine Avanti  cruiser...... sorry thats just my opinion....3263 now has a 700 and ive never had the urge to spin the tires ..... with a 305 it probably wouldnt do it anyway.... best wishes and good luck ...... BILL

  4. RQB 3263/81-305    DEFINATELY "HOT ROD" AFTERMARKET.....and a good thing at that....probably cost $150  back in the good ole days...not leaking dont touch it....extra volume a plus .... and may have a handy drain plug on the back end not visible in pic.... you got lucky.... keep up the good work...WRG

  5. RQB 3263 81/305    yes  i installed them on my 81.  relatively  easy job with no other adjustments required..... however.... while they have to do exactly what they are designed to do  after a couple miles I didnt feel any difference in the steering....there is a difference but I didnt feel it....its still the 50s vintage Stude Lark kingpin front suspension/steering......

  6. RQB3263 81/305..... well I been here done this ... I dont recall any real problem getting parts .... part numbers are on the old bearings etc..... but....  I took my axles to a local 4X4 shop ( in Keystone Heights, Florida)  to have the bearings installed figuring they would have experience and tools ... so here is what happened....the ham fisted yokel  doing the job with the bearing and collars i supplied,  torched off the old bearing (s), and the proceeded to press the new bearing and collar onto a hot axle....well the first one had time to cool so no problem there....but the second one broke the collar... too make it worse he tried to give it to me broken !!  fortunately I spotted the break and I supplied a new collar and got the job done right the second time..and he still charged me for screwing it up....so a word to the wise , inspect other peoples work and your own.... If im not mistaken that collar is the only thing holding that axle in so this could have had disastrous consequences .....BILL.... RQB 3263

  7. RQB3263 81/305..... If you go the module route ..... yes and easy to check ....check for spark at two or more plugs....if no replace the module......a 5 minute job.....however.....only install genuine OEM /GM module ....i have had experience with several aftermarket modules  (one lasted 1 mile) and after installing an  OEM unit purchased from GM dealer  been perfect ever since..... (I carry a spare and a screwdriver)......Best of luck.....Bill

  8. RQB3263/81/305.... Does it have fuel injection or carb.?   If carb is it an electronic q-jet ? If elect q-jet it can(should) be replaced with NON elect q-jet(direct 4 bolt replacement w/ one wire hook up)  Im not sure this will  solve your problem but will certainly make your life with Avanti simpler and more enjoyable.... If it has fuel injection may be an intermittent elect  fuel pump..... good luck and let us all know how you resolve this issue ...... BILL

  9. 10. RQB3263 1981/305      yes had the same situation on 3263...installed 700R4  four yrs ago with exactly  the same mods detailed in this thread..... the trans mount was easy (pics) the TV cable is very important, if now correctly adjusted will do serious damage to trans... with my  original 2.72 rear gear im tacking 1750 at 65 MPH....PERFECT.....IMG_1484.thumb.jpg.adec6fffb6caf4c2f34fdd92fa1278ca.jpg

  11. RQB3263/81/305  Good Morning Avanti folks

I replaced my hood insulation with a product from "Aircraft Spruce and Specialty Co."    super sound proof with sticky back adhesive

1/4" thick X 48" wide sold by the foot at $13.50....p/n 09-01244     .ph.770-487-2310....  the hood needs to be off and laid  flat on at table.  cleaned thoroughly......this being large sticky back can be tricky to install (make cardboard templates first).....but has worked well on RQB3263 for 5 years

  12. RQB3263/81/305 .... I HAD EITHER NATIONAL OR KING OF CARBS IN JACKSONVILLE, FL ( CANT REMEMBER WHICH) BUILD ME AN NON ELECTRONIC QJET.... ONE MINOR ADJ. AND I HAVENT TOUCHED IT IN 5 YRS OR MORE ... WORKS FINE  ....SEE YOU IN INDY ..... BILL

  13. RQB3263/305 .... ATTACHED is a pic of an access panel I installed behind the left front wheel.... when removed (5  10x32 machine screws) is allows access to the steering box, rag joint and most important number 7 spark plug....this took less than 2 hrs  and panel is .050 aluminum but just about any thickness above .032 will work fine..... see you all in Indy!!
