  1. Thanks.. I'm going there right now.. Ok I did..Only 12 from 2001-7... Only 6 from 01-04// Not the best to determine numbers from... But thanks.
  2. 64studeavanti Can you be more specific?
  3. Um,,, Not. But I'm over it and moving on. What I did find out is it's near impossible to get a Prestolite Starter for our cars. My curiosity is IF something else will bolt up and work.
  4. So one day 3 weeks ago I went out to start My 63. R2. It was up on jackstands since I've been doing other things underneath. I hit the key.,..and it clicked. but the starter didn't throw out. After many tedious hours to get the starter out I bench tested the Starter with a 75amp blast... Still it wouldn't extend. Trying to find a replacement Prestolite starter turned into a near impossibility. Finally I was directed to a guy in Asheville NC who had a business of rebuilding Starters and Alternators (a rarity to find someone in that Business anymore). He determined it was just gummed up and cleaned it down. He then bench tested it in front of me...Good to go.. $50.oo... I was happy. I got it back in there car and "click!" Huh??? ...Ok, 6 months ago I had a new 3EE Battery that I installed... I took it out and had it tested... Near Dead. I had just charged it for 10 hours and nothing??? Now I'm frustrated,... no... I was Pissed Off... Being under warranty I had the Battery replaced (By the way, Diehard makes one) Try again... Battery in and "Click"... Now I'm not pissed anymore but stunned. Starter back out (now for the 4th time) and I noticed a little green corrosion on the cable from the solenoid to the starter. Ok, No More Fooling Around... I bought up what was needed to make a new cable AND a solenoid thinking I'm going to rebuild this entire circuit. ... First I installed a fresh cable . VROOM!!!! Y E S !!! Y'all..This was frustrating and since these are part time hours I've been at this for 3 weeks. I figure I had 20 hours sorting this out. Moral of the story??? "Even a Blind Squirrel will get an acorn now and then !" Sheesh!!!... Now I can continue doing the items on my list to get it on the road for the Spring.
  5. Thanks...Gun. Mine did amaze me when I saw "Studebaker" on the tag. Considering the Co went under in '64' it amazed me that they were re-using that name. I've only had the car for 45 days and haven't had time to dig into the Vin and other numerical concerns. In another posting I did find John Hulls book and bought it. It's claiming 53ish units over 4 years,, Another source sez 72ish in year '02' alone. So I'm still not understanding that. I did PM John but heard He was getting elderly and just went thru a house fire. Thus He has not reached out to me,,, which is fine... (a prayer He is good and gets things together.) One thought on that matter, is... Is there a ""Registry'' for Our cars? It might reveal where the numbers land wether over the 53 units in 4 years or not. I own a Porsche 928 and they have a ''Registry" so questions on productions there are solidified. But I started this thread to see if "We Have a Name"!
  6. Yeah, the '05'- '06'- '07' are Mustang GT based. Sounds like it is actually an '04' holdover titled in '05'. Earlier versions seem to all be '01-2' based Firebird TA's. I think the ones of '03' - '04' were made on a '02' Chassis.
  7. Gun, ... That's my assumption as well,,, Interesting Yours didn't have the door tag,,, (actually it;s on the door frame by the latch assembly.) I was just wondering if there was a referred to "Name" for my '02' like an AV3, AV4 or the sorts.... or just nothing. Owning the Original '63' and the '02' are night and day different cars. Love em both for different reasons. The '63' R2 is radical... The '02' is refined.
  8. Studebaker Avanti is on the door tag.. The rights were apparently purchased.
  9. That basically answers it, cept they are just Avanti;s with no other designation... cept the year? Thus my '02' is a Studebaker Avanti... plain and simple?
  10. So the first 3 were called the AVX's what is the name of the Production Models. Are they also considered AVX's? After '64' The Avanti II was introduced and thus called that. What is my '02' model referred to be? Just an Avanti by Studebaker?
  11. Sorry to hear about the Home being tore up. A prayer is called for for His overall recovery of losses. Being originally from the Midwest, I'm quite aware of what the winds can do. Not Good! I'm coming to the conclusion I may never get firm answers, but am still waiting and hoping. Thanks for His update.
  12. I've seen that site and the numbers.. I've been told they are incorrect, and the book that states that is by John Hull. He is a member of this site and I've private messaged him a week ago, but no response so far.,
  13. Thanks for this. I actually thought it would have been about 4-500 lbs lighter, but the scales don't lie. I have a stock, numbers matching '63' R2...All info is interesting about these cars, ( I also have a '02' Avanti with a few Mods making just under 400hp)
  14. Nothing like roadside repairs to mess up a perfectly good day. Glad no fire or other disaster took place. Once I was running down I-94 from Detroit to Chicago in the middle of the night.. The car severely overheated.. I pulled off at an exit in the middle of nowhere. The only thing at that exit was a Strip Club. I diagnosed the car's thermostat was not opening. Luckily I had tools and removed it but what about water to refill? I suggested to the Wife i needed to go in the Club to get water...''''I'll stick to Business!!'''''' NO WAY '''', She Cried!.. So, after looking around for a water source in the middle of the night, I was down at the ditch filling up 2 styrofoam cups at a time of ditch water to get the car back on the road. It took a solid gallon or so and about 45 minutes collecting it.. Would have been easier to go into the Strip Club... it was a real skank place and really not tempting at all.... but... we got home.
  15. Stacy... Go for it. They are fantastic cars.
  16. No... Good advice... Let me see if His contact info is in the book.
  17. No thanks. I'll defer to someone else's experiences.
  18. Your perspective of my pants is not needed or even sensical... First off it's all '''off topic'''. Nothing of value is being gained and especially under this topics diversions into childish bashing. Yo Mama's Calling, go home before thew street lights come on. I'm out.
  19. I'm just after answers... not quibbling.
  20. I'm following this'n. My '63' has the same issue. A single master and weak brakes. Yes, this is a "stock" setup. It doesn't make me feel better since the last single master cyl car I had ('63' Ford) was near destroyed when the thing failed at 50mph. Currently my Avanti is up on jackstands and I'm going thru things... Brakes being one of the major items.
  21. Gold.. That's what i referred to initially... but everyone here told me that the list was flawed. The confusion is rampant.
  22. I'm not faulting anyone, I do know what the exact numbers are on my '63' model right down to the models available (R1 vs R2). I even have the Build Sheet for it some 61 years later. I would consider a newer version (My '02", 22 years later) would have similar info available. So mind you, I'm a tad frustrated. It also has led to an issue with Insurances since the sales numbers have been low so they have few Comps to go on. Thus they only allow a $35k policy. My suspicion is that should be closer to $40-45k, but they won't go there. Hemmings only shows 3 on the market over the past 3 years and one was up for sale for $50k. I think that number is high and actual (suspected) value is somewhere between the $35k and $50k number, but the info out there is insufficient to argue the point. My issue is lack of sufficient info on many fronts.,,,
  23. I don't want to keep buying info on my Car. The book ran me over $45 with shipping and taxes. So for now, I'm done purchasing info that is lacking. Don't get me wrong, the info was very good. I am just not satisfied with the lack of production numbers on the ''01-04'' models. Seems a real info loss if the info can't be obtained. It's the only car I've purchased (over 65 vehicles over the years) where the numbers couldn't be chased down. Something wrong there. It's appearing to me that the Studie Avanti Originators ('99-07'') were pretty sloppy in their book keeping.
