warren55 is 'spot on' with that drilled hole idea. I did just that a few years ago on my '83, and it makes reaching plug #5 (3rd back on the left) MUCH easier!

From the info that came in the glove box of my Avanti...including a small brochure regarding this plaque...I understood it was given out free to any new Avanti buyer that applied for it. I think the "CAUTION.....120mph" plaque is not a Stude item, but one that was popular back in the seventies from auto stores like JC whitney.

The question was whether it was true that Studebaker changed the air cleaner during the run. I answered true as it was changed.
My apoligies Gunslinger...I read my own question wrong!!..Time to get some sleep!

-
Gunslinger was correct with six....and Brad has a valid point that what I called brackets are part of the stainless grille.
-
True.
I'm afraid not!...The '64 Avanti R2 style air cleaner is considerably different from the '63.
-
No, under the glove box.
Under it is...as Studebaker had done for many years.
-
False, it was the only years they used a GM bolt pattern.
GM it is!
-
You forgot the two on the later door panels.
No, not really....The question referred to 1963 Avantis....not 1963 'transition models' or 1964 Studebaker Avantis!
-

I'd say the father of the Studebaker Avanti was Sherwood Egbert. I'd also say that the father of the Avanti ll was Nathan Altman.
I'd say that Studebaker shut down Avanti production because Avantis simply weren't profitable.....When the South Bend plant was closed and all vehicle production was focused on their Hamilton, Ontario plant, only the most profitable line was kept in production....The Lark. The ultimate decision on all of this was made by the Studebaker Board Of Directors in New York.
