  1. He was quite the administrator… Raymond Loewy’s ‘ Right Arm’!
  2. My first Stude Avanti, 63R3623, had factory ‘quiet’ exhaust, with small oval mufflers and resonators in place of the L&R pipes that normally connected the standard fiberglass mufflers to the rear tailpipes. It also had the connector pipe that connected the two exhaust pipes….just ahead of the oval mufflers . That ‘connector’ pipe really had no performance advantage… it was there to smooth out the exhaust pulses in the optional quiet Avanti exhaust system!
  3. That’s because you only bought the ‘Hot Rods” Nelson !!!!!!!!!!
  4. Wow!…Doesn’t seem right… If you purchased it new, I’d think they would take it back and furnish you the correct size…The unit I purchased fit my ‘83 Avanti with no mods..I was able to perform the entire install through the removable sunglasses opening at top center of dash.
  5. I’ll see if I can read the part # from under dash… I no longer have the packaging…l didn’t use the power antenna connection, as the power antenna was eliminated from my ‘83 before I bought it.
  6. Early on, Studebaker connected the front exhaust pipes with a crossover pipe to even out the exhaust pulses for a ‘smoother’ exhaust note…. personally, I prefer separated exhaust pipes with glasspack mufflers for that ‘raucous’, in your face exhaust sound!!
  7. Yes… I purchased and installed one in my ‘83 Avanti ‘Everyday Driver’ about four years ago….(replacing a dysfunctional factory Blaupunkt radio)…The Autosound unit fit my Avanti’s dash with no modifications to the dash… and even plugged into the four factory speaker wiring with little effort……. Reasonable price… I’m quite happy with this purchase!

    Upholstery?
  9. Nice!… Good way to get the youngsters learning what Avantis are all about!
  10. Yes… there should be a FACTORY part number on that piece….NICE WORK!!!!!
  11. R4892 is considered to be the first production ‘square light’ Stude Avanti… with all of the INITIAL ‘64 model year updates.

    Avanti Radio!

True on the cable Gun, but I don’t think hole was drilled in body if ‘Radio Delete’ was specified.

    Avanti Radio!

    Yes… TRUE… Good thought!

    Avanti Radio!

Sorry Stacey… this cable question is TRUE!

    Avanti Radio!

    That ‘sounds’ right to me!
  16. All Studebaker Avantis were factory equipped with the long antenna cable running from dashboard to trunk… whether the car was equipped with a radio or not….. True?
  17. As Geoff said…. You nailed it!!
  18. It’s been said for a long time that Altman had to shim up the Avanti’s body to add clearance for the ‘taller’ Chevy V8… I’ve always doubted there was an engine height problem… I believe he simply thought the Studebaker Avanti’s nose down attitude did not fit his thoughts of how his new Avanti ll personal luxury car should look.
  19. A passenger in the rear seat of a Studebaker Avanti, distributes approx. …..?…..% of their body weight over the rear axle. 1) 60…..2) 75…..3) 80…..or……4) 85
  20. Black and Beautiful!!
  21. You aren’t wrong… there were about 25 twentieth anniversary models built with those features for the ‘83 model year… however, those features did not become standard across the board until ‘84.
  22. Wow…I hadn’t heard about this new oil…. Thanks!
  23. OK Bob…. Whatever you say!!!
  24. Yes true… maybe the biggest change he made on the ‘83 Avantis was the dropping of the ‘ll’ on exterior badging.
