The 2 different Mustang based Avanti's
ronmanfredi posted a topic in 2004-2007 Avanti Mustang models
Many don't know that Avanti had to make 2 different Ford based cars between 2004-2007. In 2004 Avanti had run out of Firebird donor cars and had to make a new body to fit the current SN95 chassis. Production began in late 2004 and continued through most of 2005. Ford announced in 2005 the discontinuance of the SN95 and the introduction of the S197 car. Once again, Avanti had to recreate a completely new body to fit the 2006-2007 chassis. The prototypes were actually initially created in Villa Rica, Georgia while the Cancun, Mexico factory was being built and then transported to Cancun to begin production. Here are photos of each donor car and the resulting Avanti car. Notice how the 2004 red car is narrower than the 2007 silver car. The 2004 also has a longer front overhang than the 2007. -

So today I (sorta) got it running. I put 3-4 gallons of alcohol free gas with Seafoam in the tank. More Seafoam down the float bowls. Brake clean to kick it off.....No smoke , good oil psi, gas coming thru clean in a clear filter, It starts and runs a few seconds and dies.. suspect a gummed up carb. I consider today a success.

I test drove it last October at Napoli Motors. Deficiencies at the time were the electric passenger window control was non-op, car pulled to the right when braking, tires had flat spots and there may have been a crack in the dash, the center arm rest lid was detached and there was at least one tear in the driver’s seat. The ride felt as though some suspension components might require a closer inspection. Paint was overall pretty good with some imperfections. I also have 20-odd pages of receipts from Mike Meyers that total about $35K. It was priced at $58,000. It looked at felt like a mid-$40K car to me, so I passed. Lenny bought the car from Art and Speed in Collierville TN. Not sure what he paid but A&S bought it for $37,500.

You'll need the Hi and Lo tone horns. The one I had difficulty finding was the Lo tone since this one sat underneath the battery tray. Batteries would leak, taking out the horn eventually.

I used to have one. Let me check. Nope. Couldn't find it. Might gotten shipped to Australia with a crate of other Avanti parts. Sorry
-
Good point, I'll double check to see the numbers are the same, thank you,,
-
Where might I get one?

I'm considering B.A.T.. for my '82' 928 Porsche. Glad Your experience was good.

Other early 60's Studebakers probably used the same horn. If you care about originality, find one on Ebay (sample) https://www.ebay.com/itm/366233586381 If not, these early Mustang horns are very similar. https://www.ebay.com/itm/227151780264?_skw=hi%2Flow+horns+mustang&itmmeta=01KQBNCFS5MTN0VVHP687SKTN8&hash=item34e34d19a8:g:Xa4AAeSw4TxpUt9u&itmprp=enc%3AAQALAAAA0GfYFPkwiKCW4ZNSs2u11xBiFPuQnBHki11Z5WfzIZrAOlWkqY5rLFMHS15FAgBZmea9fZKO5WN7B0viEi7XTwFAXixxQr2gfYqmbRF%2FE4v3uyi2GyLTjR8WpqKs71eOW6Zu1pUFUHU51fETr3nQyMPc5VKyrdEXedo4iaKpUawH2SKueXfiofc7%2Bqy8YDIywGyD%2FQfs47C8iLnYi4ZtUMJXRElGZfo4xyBQKOLuPMBPjA19JNkR79BQRy8%2BDS57lkb6gzNkoUw%2FoAu%2FaV3uhVw%3D|tkp%3ABlBMUPj8sfW6Zw

The dowel pins to locate the cylinder heads are missing from my R2 engine block, seems they may have been removed when the block was machined and never replaced, so my question, are there any drawbacks to installing the heads without them?,,,

Does anyone have a working 63 Avanti Horn for sale?

Last year I sold a 64 Vette on Bat. Had a professional photographer take lots of professional shots. Was aware of all fees up front and and a very smooth transaction. Would do it again.
-
Just came on BAT a 63 R2 4 speed, looks really nice.

WANTED: Door Sill rubber pads mounting material
Kodjo replied to Kodjo's topic in Avanti Parts For Sale or Wanted
I'm sorry, Dwight, but I think your ancestors drank too much on the boat from Europe to the promised land, causing them to forget how to use commas and periods. Just so you know: Since no one responded, out of desperation I bought a Studebaker Avanti solution. The advantage is that this solution holds the carpet better. I'm happy with it. -
I’d make sure that the cylinder head casting numbers, which are located on top of the center exhaust port, are both the same….. Over the years I’ve seen a few Studebaker’s where a cylinder head has been swapped indiscriminately with another to replace a damaged original head…..which could result in a slight compression ratio difference…..If the casting numbers are the same, you’re good to go!

Wow!…Two beauties!… And I like your method of pricing cars realistically.
-
I've never had a problem selling cars with Marketplace. The trick is, I price them to sell using Hagerty and Old Cars Magazine price guides as a guideline. I realistically decide whether the car is a #2 or #3 and go from there. Every Studebaker I've fixed up and sold has taken maybe 6 weeks max. (I don't buy them to flip, but inevitably get bored with them once done and sell them after 2-3 years of ownership). Always looking for interesting trades, just in case you are inclined in that direction. Here's what I have.

thanks to all who replied to my post with the information I need it, I do have both Factory manuals but I would never have thought to look in the electrical section for the location of these brackets,,,

Yes, they didn't upload the 1st time, they did now,,,thanks

WANTED: Door Sill rubber pads mounting material
Dwight FitzSimons replied to Kodjo's topic in Avanti Parts For Sale or Wanted
42 inches is 1,07 meters to a European. (I don't know why Europeans have the period & comma backwards, but that would be a subject for another day.) --Dwight -
WANTED: Door Sill rubber pads mounting material
John Brissette replied to Kodjo's topic in Avanti Parts For Sale or Wanted
My reading of the original post, is that Kodjo is needing the stainless trim that goes with the rubber sill. Kodjo, that piece is just a "L" shaped piece of stainless. Easy to make if you have access to a metal brake. I happen to have that piece off of my car, so I've measured it and here are the numbers. 42 " long 6 Holes.....My guess is you already know that, as there should be 6 holes in the body 24 Gauge (.0239 thick) The long leg is 15mm......The short leg is 6-7mm Hope this helps John
