So in this Avanti the exhaust has been replaced with 2.5" and flow masters. The original exhaust manifolds are still in place with 2" exhaust for the first 24" I am not racing the car 𤫠just curious if there are headers that work with the stock power steering and starter. They would not be visible from above, blocked by the spark shields and the car has been changed from a R1 to aR3 clone, -heads so is by no means a show car and will be a driver.

HINT⦠were transporting families sometimes!

Good guess⦠but no! HINT !ā¦. What can be applied to a new car once the design has been approved and assembled?

You ānailed itā with āexcess chromeā!, However, the second item wasnāt a grille.⦠Although we do know that for the Avanti project Loewy did not want to see a conventional grille on the car. Any other thoughts on that second item of āapplied eleganceā ??
-
My guesses are, No grill and No excess chrome Pb

What are two good examples of what Raymond Loewy considered to be āapplied eleganceā in car design ? (Styling treatments he strongly disliked)
-
Concerning the (then) continuing development of the Studebaker Avanti body design, what was Raymond Loewy speaking of when he referred to āspace tradingā ?
-
Regarding designing the Studebaker Avanti⦠Which member of the design team commented about doing this work in the New York officeā¦..āToo many friends reach you too easily in this office⦠Itās fine, but we had to get the job doneā ? 1) John Ebsteinā¦.2) Robert Andrewsā¦. 3) Thomas Kelloggā¦..orā¦..4) Raymond Loewy

We'll nee some more information before offering suggestions. 1. What's the current condition of the AC system? Are the compressor, condenser, hoses, evaporator, etc in good shape? Is the system charged properly? 2. Have you taken steps to minimize outside heat from entering the cabin? Are all engine compartment grommets and seals in place? Are the footwell fresh air and heater doors closing properly? Is the heater control water valve closing properly?

These are from Bob Johnstoneās Avanti registry. The car has possibly been sold to someone in Oregon. Mike

Another vote for Autolite AP85 plugs. Brad Bez put them in our R3, and I have been so pleased with them, I now have Autolites in a number of our other cars and they are all working great.

It looks as though someone made an effort to redirect fuel tank vapors for some reason. Perhaps the original vent hose loop was compromised so the quick fix was to drill a few more holes in the tank and add some plumbing. As Groucho Marx once said: ā The problem with making something foolproof, is that fools are so ingenious.ā

More than one Avanti performance shop recommend Autolite AP85 Platinum spark plugs for an R2. That's what I run in mine.

The amount of change you are mentioning won't affect the caster enough to make a difference. Remember the king pin front end design of the early 50s wasn't set up for much caster. Shinny bias ply tires, lower speed limits and mostly non power steering cars ran zero to negative caster.
