  4. This topic interested me, especially when MFG chimed in with the suggestion to shim the Center Bearing lower with washers. I referred to some of my reference photos... The whole idea needs some very fine tuning because in my case if I lower the Centre Bearing much at all, I will end up rubbing the Steering Ram reach Rod on the back end of the Front Crossmember. I only have about 1/4" clearance. In my case I dare not lower anything because I would have to deform the Crossmember and that's just not gunna happen (My original Frame had a huge dent bashed into the Crossmember). I'm already afraid of what the roadworthy inspection will say about that clearance (they're nuts here). I have about 1/2" clearance between the Ram Tie Rod End and the bottom of the Engine Pulley- nuff, I reckon. I have all new Engine Mountings BTW. Interestingly, the Clearance under the Sump with my original SBC engine is good- possibly dealt with at the Avanti Factory, perhaps?

  6. She's a beauty.
  7. Have you checked with Dan Booth at Nostalgic?
  8. No need to apologize Bob… and once again, it’s really nice that you’re back in action!!🤭

  10. Do you know the difference between factory installed and dealer installed? All my information is related to factory installed.
  11. Aren't the longbolts through the rocker assembly 83 2 and 7 or am I wrong?
  12. I miss Sears too… Hard to believe a company that big could ‘bite the dust’.
  13. Yes I do… The author of this ad is very highly respected in the Avanti world. But let me say it’s great to have you back and paying attention!
  14. Suggest you take a look at your ‘64 Studebaker AC3548 Transistor Ignition spec sheet…..This will calm your fears Bob!
  15. LOL! You think an ad for wheel covers proves that Bob Andrews designed the Avanti wheel cover.
  16. Correct. Just like the ones you could get at your local Sears Service Center. I miss Sears.
  17. The Transistorized Ignition was not a factory installed option on the Skybolt Six or regular V8s.
  18. Yes. The long bolts thru the rocker arm assembly.
  19. Although it’s debatable, who is generally credited with the ‘square headlight’ idea for the ‘64 model year Studebaker Avantis? 1) John Ebstein….2) Robert Doehler……3) Gene Winfield…. or …..4) Thomas Kellogg

    Avanti Gunsight!

    Ray Loewy is CORRECT!
  21. The correct answer to this question (Bob Andrews) can be found on page 13 in Avanti Magazine #76! As the writer is still alive and hopefully well, I’m sure you understand that I do not have permission to post his name…. Once again, the magazine will put you on the right path!
  22. Assembling my R2 engine and following the torque sequence in the factory manual, I am wondering why those 5 bolts have double numbers, the 19 to 23, does that mean those bolts should be torque last for the 2nd time?,,,
  23. Raymond Loewy…he felt it helped the driver keep his attention oriented straight ahead.
  24. You forgot the ‘Skybolt Six’ …. A nice little engine!
  25. The Transistorized Ignition (Transigniter) was a factory installed option on all 1964 R1 and R2 Studebaker models. For the Avanti it was item 196 and the suggested retail price was $74.00. $57.50 Dealer cost. 3 R1s and 6 R2s were factory equipped.
  26. My guess would be Sears-Allstate tires.
  27. On the road now …However, will get you the info later tonight!
