Hi Ted- I'm very interested in doing the same and I will be keen to hear of your results. I believe that most of these carbs come with a selection of jets and Metering Rods. There is an excellent article by a well respected Rochester rebuilder by name of Lars Grimsrud here.... https://studebaker-info.org/Tech/Qjet/tuneaQjet.pdf Many years ago he took on a Chicom Quadrajet copy for a customer and went through it in great detail to get it running right. Metering Rod and Jet sizes were covered. The whole topic was covered on line with heaps of photos. This is here.... https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/c3-tech-performance/4523417-new-chinese-q-jet-inspected-evaluated-and-tested-the-complete-results.html I'm pretty sure Alcohol blended fuels will more than likely require slightly larger jetting. Good luck-

I am replacing the original Rochester Quadrajet Carb on my 1969 (Chevy 350 engine) with a Chinese knockoff. What size jets would you recommend I use?

I can only give my experience. Many years back (after discovering my speedo read 10% higher dues to small michelins) I replaced them with 225/70-15 (on Dayton wire wheels) to get the speedo back up to within 1% of an accurate reading. The front tires experienced rubbing from the inner fender well when I did fast sharp corners (is there any other way to take a corner?) I switched the front to 225/60 and the rubbing stopped (plus it added to the rake of the vehicle) Since I replace the front coil springs, the front sits high enough that I could use 225/70 all round. But I had gone back to the original sized tire for the Avanti of 205/75 at my last tire replacement.

Looking to replace older wheels and tires on my '63. Have been running 15 x 6" Magnum 500 rims with P20575R15 tires for many years. Looking to install newer Mag 500 rims either 15 x 6" with a P20575R15 tire or upgrading to a 15 x 7" with a P215? Any comments appreciated about going to a larger rim and tire combo? Thanks.

Have a 1980 and the AC has been removed. If I use a Sanden I'd need a new bracket (which I cannot find) or a PRO5ten Al compressor might fit existing brackets. Anyone have any experience with either?? THX

I’m guessing that Avanti would buy the Magnums as needed and then just put their center caps on. Mine have Magnum 500 center caps, so likely aftermarket. Probably all the same except for some reason apparently some fit the Turners and some don’t. I’ve always liked the look of the Magnums. Hogtrough, yours look good with the raised white letters. Mike

There are a few options in the "For Sale" section that I found interesting.. Take a look , Friends.

See the article I posted here ... probably not that much extra work and you will have A/C too (assuming you don't have it). These units simply hook up to your heater hoses and you have heat.

Jon Myers says he really doesn't have much for Skytop.

An Avanti- ( a veritable hothouse) ---in Florida---and you removed the AC ?????? Do you only drive it on cloudy winter days????

IIRC, when I installed Turner's kit, the instructions said to grind off the high spot on the GM calipers.
-
I bought my Turners a few years ago, might be the GM version. Don’t want to tie up a lift if my Magnums won’t fit. Mike

There are two different Turner front disc brake kits: 1) the older kit with GM calipers, and 2) the newer kit with Chrysler minivan calipers. Clearance issues would be different between the two. -Dwight

I am using Cobalt calipers and pads. These are reengineered Girling/ Dunlop type new parts, that were intended for the Jaguar XKE etc. market. They fit with no modification other than removal of the separator piece under the pads in the caliper bracket. there are no clearance problems with the stock steel wheels that came on my "69 as the dimensions are the same. .

My conclusion was that two of the four 500s on my Avanti had slightly different offsets and came from different construction lots. Avanti Motors would simply order 15"x6" Magnum 500s which were duly shipped to them and could have come from various production lots. Since they fit the stock Bendix brakes there was no issues to be concerned about or even know about. If I remember correctly...the tech who installed the Turner kit on my car said it was about a 3/8" difference in offset...enough to cause the scraping between the caliper and the rim. I had two solutions...they could grind the high spot on the calipers or...what I did do...keep the offending rims on the rear of the car and two that didn't scrape on the front. At the time it was about forty years past any warranty concern. More modern sport rims are likely far more able to fit without issue as they would have been designed with clearances for more modern calipers. But one never knows until a test fit is done.

Yes… but let me double check it this weekend.

Are you willing to sell the complete heater housing, mfg?

I have Turners on one of my Avantis and it needs spacers on front stock wheels in order to clear calipers. I cant speak for magnums, the clearance issue is one thing I dislike about the Turner set up.
-
In past posts, Gunslinger told us that two of his Magnum 500 wheels had clearance issues with his newly installed Turner disc brakes. The other two wheels fit over the brakes fine. I’m wondering if there might be any difference on factory installed Magnums vs. wheels purchased separately. According to Bob Johnstone’s registry, my car was originally equipped with wire wheels but now wears a set of Magnums with center caps that say “Magnum 500”. Any theories as to whether factory installed wheels vs. aftermarket fit different, or is it basically a crap shoot? Mike

Thank you!… Great info.. for my own Avanti, I ended up renewing and re- installing the original power steering system… which is still working fine.
-
I had the same problem when I changed from factory wheels and tires to real knock offs. I decided to make electric power steering for my car. Here`s how I did it. I hope this helps. https://studebaker-info.org/Tech/Psteer/EPS/EPSSA/EPSSA.pdf
